I am glad Favre is retiring. He would have been absolutely crazy in my mind if he tried coming back for another season.

1. He didnt seem to have the arm-strength that we are used to seeing from him in the latter stages of the 2008 season. He underthrew a lot of receivers.

2. He looked like a tired man down the stretch. He wasnt running around carrying receivers on his back like he did in GB last season. The game didnt look as fun to him anymore.

My opinion on Favre the player is split. On one side I think he is one of the most entertaining players to ever play the game. Anytime Favre plays you know he's gonna entertain you cause he has that gunslinger mentality and he's gonna take his shots downfield. On the otherside, its that same gunslinger mentality that gets him in trouble and its for that same reason that I wouldnt want him on my team. For much of the 2nd half of his career, it almost seemed like he was willing to throw the ball into double or triple coverage in the hopes of making a big play even at the risk of INTs. The most important duty of a QB is to take care of the football and he did not do that. He threw way too many INTs for my liking.

One of the most entertaining players Ive ever seen but at the same time he threw way too many INTs.

47 Interceptions the last two years?

25 out of 30 in passer rating in 2006... worse in 2005.

You might want to re-think your post.
Your 100% correct. And its the kinds of INTs that he throws. Completely avoidable if he is more judicious with the football. Its not like these INTs are a function of DBs making great plays on the football, its more Brett Favre throwing the football into coverage.
Also, anyone that watched the Jets down the stretch saw that Brett Favre was underthrowing receivers quite a bit. Age is catching up to him, he is losing some arm-strength.

So yeah there are plenty of reasons for Favre NOT to return.

If i was a Vikings fan i would surely take Favre at QB over Frerotte and Jackson. :p
Jackson actually did play pretty well down the stretch but I am not sold on him either as the longterm answer at QB. What is the story with McNabb? Is he gonna try and find a way out of Philly? If so, I think MIN would be a logical destination.

The thing is can the Vikings afford to have both a RB in AD who fumbles a lot and a QB in Favre who throws a lot of INTs? I mean that is a recipe for disaster unless they can find a way to pull the reigns in on Brett and his gunslinger ways.

By the way, hammertm , your a Falcons fan right? I heard the Falcons may be one of the teams in the running for Albert Haynesworth. Man that would be great if we could get him. With Abraham and Haynesworth and Babineaux, that would be one of the best D-lines in football, I still think they should replace Jamaal Anderson though, they need a better end opposite Abraham. I know the Falcons already have Roddy White but I would love it if they could make a play for Houshmanzadeh just to make the offense that much more explosive. They could have Jenkins as the 3rd receiver. Falcons need to upgrade the secondary too though. All they got back there with any talent is Domonique Foxworth. Lawyer Milloy is a good veteran leadership guy but he's old, they definitely need a play making safety but those are hard to find.

Yup the Haynesworth thing is mentioned in that article too along with Dansby and Scott. Few little upgrades and one massive (haynesworth) would surely go a long way this year. :D
I had no idea they were in the running for Bart Scott. It does appear now that Scott may be the odd man out in Baltimore even though earlier it seemed like it would be Ray on the outs. If I had my choice between Bart Scott and Karlos Dansby I think I"d go with Dansby, he really impressed me in the playoffs. He is an underrated linebacker. We definitely need help at linebacker. Its hard to evaluate Bart Scott though cause he plays with a whole bunch of other talent in Baltimore so sometimes the other players around you can make you look better than you really are. I remember the last time we got a linebacker from Baltimore, Ed Hartwell. That didnt turn out so good. If they could get both Haynesworth and Dansby that would be great. It would still leave our secondary with some holes though. I wonder if they can trade Vick if he gets reinstated to get help in the secondary.

good riddance

This news is coming a year too late. All the crybaby did is prove the Pack was right in their decision which he so selfishly forced on them. Good for him, good for the Jets who were so stupid and good for the Pack who are vindicated in my eyes.

I just pray he is done for real and doesn't try his crap again. No one would fall for it again would they?

Qb's are in short supply...when people are saying Vick has a chance to come back..anything is possible....hey, the Detroit Lions could use a QB...if playing a season over there doesn't make Brett wanna give it up , nothing will

Detroit wouldnt make sense at all for Brett Favre even if he did want to return. Detroit needs to find a long term answer at QB, not a short term one. If Favre went to Detroit, it would just mean one wasted year that could have gone to developing a young QB.

I am glad he has retired though. Really, if we looked at Brett Favre's career just during this decade he does not look like a HOF player at all. A lot of his rep has been built on what he did in the 90s and the fans love him for the way he plays the game. He will be a HOF player no doubt, Im just saying that his days of playing like one are long gone. He did play pretty well in his last year with the Pack though, but he was playing more reigned in and was more judicious with the football.

Vick could end up with the Raiders, I dont know of anyone else that would want to take the PR hit that would come with having Vick as the signal-caller on your team other than Al Davis. I hope the Falcons can trade him and get some much needed secondary help, maybe a top flight safety or corner. HOw about Vick to the Jets for a package that would include Darelle Revis coming to the ATL?

You know i am an Atlanta fan, and honestly the best i see coming back for Vick is a conditional 2nd round pick. He may end up with the Raiders, Vikings, Bengals, Lions, Cincy or even SF, but none will give up nothing for my former "fav" player.
I agree he could end up in any of those teams. Why the Bengals though? I think Carson Palmer is a franchise QB and he is a much better passer than Vick has ever been. I totally agree though Minnesota, SF, Lions, Raiders could be possible destination, The Bears as well is a potential destination.

I think the other interesting thing with Vick is that he could be a major weapon in the wildcat formation. A lot of teams used the wildcat last year after Tony Sporano brought it back early in the season. It will be interesting to see though what Roger Goodell does, cause he still needs to be reinstated before he can be traded I would imagine.

I hope the Dirty Birds land Haynesworth. If I could have my pick of any FA, gimme Haynesworth. I just hope he responds well to signing a big money deal.

This time it's for real - papers have been filed with the league where before not was submitted.

I personally think Palmer is done with the label of Franchise QB, he hasn't been the same ever since he took the hit against Pittsburgh.
Ah yeah, the Kimo Von Oelhoffen hit, the hit that started PITTs run to the SB back in 05.

Pennington is so much of a class act, he totally handled things the right way when he went back to play the Jets in week 17. He may not have the arm-strength of a Favre but I think some of that may have had to do with the windy confines of Giants stadium. His arm looked good down in Miami. Pennington is a very accurate passer and did a great job taking care of the ball this season, well save for that playoff game against Ed Reed and the boys, but most of those turnovers were caused by pressure.

With Favre gone, do the Jets try and steal Collins from the Titans? my bet is yes.

Do the Jets really want to go from one short term answer to another though? In any case , I am a big Rex Ryan fan and I think the Jets made a great move getting him.

Given that they don't have a long term answer on the roster, yes.

Has Favre retracted his retirement yet??

I bet that by the 2nd game of the pre-season Favre has signed on with a team.. I think he is going to skip part of training camp and come in last minute.

If Favre can realize his limitations, he can still be a great QB and lead a team like Minnesota to victory...

Sorry for re-hashing this thread but this guy is destroying his legacy and becoming a bit of a laughing stock in my opinion.

NFL Network's Scott Hanson reports that free agent Brett Favre "will continue to throw and work out" despite telling Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday that he wanted to stay retired.

You've got to be kidding. Favre reportedly said he's still not totally sure about whether he'll stay retired or try to play, even after "confirming" he'd re-re-retire to Childress and in an ESPN interview. Asked by Steve Mariucci how he'd feel about his decision on Wednesday morning, Favre replied "I'm wondering that myself."
