I heard that he has turned down a 5 yr extension with the Ducks last week, saying he "wanted to see what was out there" after the season.....

I would love to see it happen, he could tell all the clowns on the MLSE board to fuck themselves, and the Toronto sports press as well......and we'd have a great team here in 3 yrs or so. Remember when he took over the Ducks just three years ago they were 26th in the league. First year Conference final, second year Stanley.......

Best thing about him is that he has no time or patience for bullshit.....

His ego is huge, and what better place to show it off then in the second best hockey city, he'll be in TO.

The Ducks also had a bunch of prospects before Burke took over. Giguere, Getzlaf and Perry. Plus Smid and Lupul were traded for Pronger. The Leafs cupboard is pretty bare in comparison.

BB is definitely one of the top 3-5 GMs in hockey - he's just more of a trader. I still think that the Leafs have to contact Holland and Lamoriello, simply based on their abilities to find top prospects late in the first round and in the latter rounds of the draft.

Your read my mind, the Ducks were very deepin young talent before Burke got there...... How did he do with the canucks where is their stanley cup? Ken then Lou then Brian would be how I would rate the top three GM's.

I think Bob Gainey is up there, he's straightened out the Habs, won consistently with Dallas.

Doug Gilmour & Co. is the leafs future... Peddie informed they have guys on payroll able to takeover after Fletcher...

all this Burke BS is just that. Canadian Media Spin, again. Largely created, as always, by that twit Darren Dreger.

some funny Dreger stuff:
-Alex Ovechkin will not negotiate a contract extension with Washington because he wants to play in a bigger hockey market like Toronto. -he extended with WSH...
-Sundin wants to be traded to the Detroit Red Wings. -Mats didn't even waive his no trade clause...
-Scotty Bowman was to be hired by MLSE by end of November. -SB laughed on HNIC in December...
-Bob Gainey will soon be rumoured by DD to come to Toronto.
-Peter Forsberg will only go to a Canadian franchise.

The funny thing was on NHL trade day they made it look like they were in the know with there crackberries. You know Dreger had shit all coming in, but was making himself look busy and informed.

Second Best???
Where exectly is the first best hockey city?
Detroit maybe a distant second (better team by far over the leafs), however Toronto is hockey central town.
Always has been, always will be

Not sure if they'll get any of these guys and agreed Burke was loaded with talent to start with. When it comes to GM's and draft its all up to the scouts and THERE knowledge. From what I hear/read JFJ didnt listen to any of his.
Neil Smith is another name but he had money in New York to build team, much like Quinn. Not sure whos coming but get rid of Peddie.
I wish Dreger stayed with SN, he cant hold a candle to Bob MaC and his knowledge. Dreger just another talking head like Kypreos and the group on Hockey Central, although TSN made me laugh on trade day with Milbury/JFJ, now theres 2 who know something about hockey, NOT.

Oh, Dreger does have his contacts. And he does report on accurate stuff, too... but, he is TSN's master of putting out spin so I don't doubt the crackberry was constantly going off by the guy in the control room...

Remember that Burkie may be the ONLY guy with the bones and balls to scare the MLSE egos enough that they take their hands off the hockey operation.....

Or pay him out early before he can get anything done...

they (leafs) should get Glenn Healy as GM .. his plan is to build around Sundin (he said it again last week)

Funny thing is he knew the importance of goaltending ie John Vanbiesbrouck when he was GM with the Panthers.
Actually, he got lucky the Rangers traded Vanbiesbrouck to Vancouver (they decided correctly that Richter was #1 and wanted to get something for JVB) where he was exposed in the expansion draft instead of Kirk McLean...

I agree, Clarke was a great talent evaluator for forwards. Defensemen only so-so. Goalies, he didn't have a clue - hence the "lucky" with JVB.
