In Brian's defense, he actually went to a combat zone in Iraq and he actually went to a flooded New Orleans. This is unlike Jon Stewart who sits in a studio in NYC mocking and making fun of people who are on the front line.

I highly recommend perhaps all of Brian Williams posts should be deleted from terb, perb, merb, and other like boards.

Absolutely false. Jon Stewart shamed the Republicans who were trying to ignore health problems of 911 first responders by inviting firefighters & police on his show to highlight their health problems. Jon Stewart brought to light the abysmal treatment of returning veterans and the inability to get health care and support due to an archaic paper processing. Fox News - like republicans - were great at flag waving but horrible providing support for the common soldier.

Yes his actions aren't commendable, still "Do not let your heart be glad when someone stumbles" Proverbs 24:17

It is sad when someone falls like this.
It's tragic, but inexcusable. It's understandable for somebody in his position to fall prey to his own ego because he's intelligent, ambitious, wealthy, and has high status as a media figure. But it's still inexcusable. For how long has Mr. Williams' ego tainted his reporting? We'll never really know.

Yes, Brian Williams did go to New Orleans to report on the flooding during Hurricane Katrina. So sit back and watch Jon Stewart make fun of the next round of lies.

Former FEMA Director Michael Brown called “B.S.” on embattled NBC anchor Brian Williams’s claims that he saw a dead body floating outside of his hotel room during Hurricane Katrina.

Williams, who lied about having been shot down in a helicopter at the beginning of the Iraq War and may have fibbed about having dodged Hezbollah rockets, claimed that he looked out his hotel window in the French Quarter and watched “a man float by face down.” Brown said the French Quarter saw “inches” of flooding compared to “feet of water” in the lower areas.

“That’s not the kind of flooding that was the problem in New Orleans, which is where we’re talking about breaches of levies, we’re talking about 6 feet, 8 feet, 10 feet of water,” Brown, who directed the agency during Katrina, told the International Business Times. “So for Brian Williams to smugly talk about looking out his French Quarter window and watching a body float by? I call B.S.”

Con't...

Let's put this in perspective. He didn't dally with his intern, he didn't drug and rape women, etc. I think history will be kind to him. Good people will forgive his lapse of memory .

It is I must say interesting that there are those (including here) who will still defend Dan Rather for lies created from whole cloth, while the general attitude regarding Brian Williams is seemingly that he should be marooned on a desert island.

Based on what I have seen and heard, yes, there does appear to be some harmless little fibs in his reporting and storytelling --- but his basic reporting is true. Helicopters were hit with RPG's in Iraq and there were some bodies floating in New Orleans after Katrina.

Harmless little fibs? Anyone paid 10 Million a year ought to be a little more factual in their reporting. He lied to stoke his ego, got caught and is suspended for 6 months until they find someone credible to replace him. End of story!

More stories coming out about him claiming to be embedded in some seal team operations and receiving gifts such as a knife and a piece of a chopper that went down in osamas's killing from seal team members.

Turn off the news and your televisions and do your own homework. There is a reason why they call it programming.

And the hits keep coming

Did Brian Williams Lie About Meeting Pope John Paul II?!

In public settings, Williams has also discussed another brush with history that occurred a decade before the fall of the Berlin Wall. As a student at Catholic University, Williams was at the school when Pope John Paul II spoke at the Washington, D.C. campus in 1979. The anchor's account of the papal visit has varied over the years.

In 2002, Williams was quoted as saying that he chipped in with the school's preparations as an employee in the campus public relations office.

"I was there during the visit of the pope," Williams said.

If he had any interaction with the pope, Williams didn't mention it in then. But that changed in 2004, a year before the death of Pope John Paul II. While delivering the commencement address at Catholic University that year, Williams said the "highlight" of his time at the school "was in this very doorway, shaking hands with the Holy Father during his visit to this campus."

After reporting the news of the pope's death in 2005, Williams said on-air that he was "thinking back to the first time I met him at Catholic University, I guess it's 25 years ago now."

Days later, Williams provided a more colorful version of his meeting.

"I have to begin with a beautiful day in 1979," Williams said in an interview published by NBC News. "I was a student at Catholic University, and over the course of two hours, chatted up a Secret Service agent who spilled like a cup of coffee and told me that the pope would be coming our way, straight up the steps of a side door at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. I positioned myself and held out my hand and said, 'Welcome to Catholic University, Holy Father.' And he embraced my hand with both of his, made the sign of the cross, and said a blessing to me."

The same year, he told Esquire he met the pope simply by being in the right place at the right time -- not thanks to a chatty Secret Service agent
