Let's not forget that a very important aspect of good leadership is the ability to exercise good judgement. This sometimes means adjusting plans to accommodate new information and altered circumstances.

Pyro the (Pissed off) Pig.
Good leadership? Adjusuting plans to accomodate new info and altered circumstances? Please, he knew exactly what the situation was with the deficit and he knew that he'd be able to use it to justify his intent to "adjust plans" as you like to refer to it, as a good leader.

I'm trying to remember who the big critics were in the hydro restructuring that the PCs tried to implement, hmm, maybe the liberals? I believe that a completely open market for electricity over time would be in our best interest and then you wouldn't have to worry about capping rates in Ontario. Unfortunately it was the liberals who made such a stink about it previously that it had to be scrapped.

Althoug I did not vote Liberal (could ya guess) Dalton ran a much better campaign than ernie and rightly so receieved the majority of the votes. What pisses me off is the hypocrisy. He is going to implement all of these changes to "address the deficit" and they are the same changes that they were so critical of over the last three years. I'm not too naive to think that truth is not the first casualty in an election, but that doesn't preclude me from my right to be pissed off.

BTW, how do you justify going back on Oak Ridges as good leadership and adjusting to new info. He should have know all the facts about the situation before he made all the promises. If he didn't then that's stupid leadership.

It's a shame he didn't use it when he made those "promises."
Unfortunately, voters are in a sort of pact with the politicians: Come election time, we don't want to hear the bad news so they won't tell us the bad news. Cynicism is bred on both sides. We see politicans as corrupt. They see us as stupid. And so it goes.

I'm always amazed how easily some people get snowed by the tactics that the Fiberals have perfected. All one has to do is look at a few facts.

1. McGuinty says they are aware of the _real_ deficit of 5-6 Billion dollars but will still give everyone a pony for Christmas.

2. The Fiberals get elected and promise to have the former auditor go over the books with a fine tooth comb.

3. Before the former auditor goes at it, he is given "guidelines" to use when preparing the figures. Basically, he was told to ignore all the PC's plans were planning in the coming year.

4. Lo and behold a "projected" deficit. Note that it's not an actual deficit because the fiscal year hasn't finished yet and all the rules have conveniently changed in mid-stream.

5. Suddently, the Fiberals look surprised at how bad the numbers are. What happened to point #1?

Sorry, but if you can't look at what they've done and realize that we're in for 4 years of lies and broken promises, you need deprogramming.

Well at least I can take some comfort in knowing that we'll be re-electing a PC government in 4 years. The only thing is:

1. Will we still have province in 4 years?

2. Can my ass take all that pounding it's going to get for 4 years?

Oh yeah. Where's my pony?

The biggest lie and broken promise came from the Tory government. This was when they said that they will balance another budget. What a bunch of crock. They did a lot for getting Ontario back on track but their egos got in the way.

Give Dalton a break. Let's give him a chance.

Give me a break! The "promises" were based on the PC claim that the books were balanced. Now that we know how blatantly fraudulent Eves' claims were, it only makes sense for McGuinty to adapt his plans to the resources available.
Come on, every think tank was saying there was a deficit during the election.

As I recall, I think the liberal critic for finance was saying the same thing.

Not to mention how Dalton would always duck and evade the question. Whenever he was asked about this, he would always reply with something like "I will do what a family of four in Ontario would want me to do..."

This was no secret. I like how Dalton only changed his tune until after he got his votes.

yeah, I agree Malibook, and with the rates increases they described I am looking at MAYBE 5 bucks a months.

I realize some larger businesses will be hit harder and I hope it doesn't kill our economic growth.

What I don't agree with is the broken campaign promises. I never did find out what happened to the governor of california? What's a recall? zat mean he wasn't doing his job? If so, we outta have something like that here.

As I always say: it doesn't matter who you vote for cause the government always gets in!

The moral of the story is that you're wasting your time when you go out to vote. All you get is crap no matter who's in power.

Perhaps Ontario has more than its fair share of Sir Humphrey Applebys? :)
