Can anyone explain why when i open my Browser i get this page file < c:/searchpage.html?page > instead of my default page of < cbc.ca >

If i type a URL in the address bar like cbc.ca i'll get this < c:/searchpage.html?page=www.cbc.ca > I can log on to sites that are in my favourites but i can not log on to the web. Any ideas friends? More importantly how do i get rid of this virus or whatever you call it from my computer?

I can't change anything in Internet Options either it (whatever it is) won't let me change the defaults. God would i like to be a computer geek. Thanx any help would be appreciated. --- Kev

I'm far from a computer geek, but it sounds like some spyware has been unknowningly loaded into your system. Follow this PC Magazine link, read and download if you wish. I use Ad-Ware from Lavasoft and it works for me. You may also want to download a free trial of Window Washer from Webroot.com to clear out the cookies and other crap in your Temp Internet Files. Good luck!

Kev, whch OS and browser you are using ?
XP..........IE Berlin.

I have something on the go, and many here have touched on the different types of downloadable software needed to eliminate this virus. After doing some research i found out its abit more involved than a few clicks of the mouse. I'm trying to download Adware from Cnet and 'so far' its taking 2 hours and still not complete. Uuuuglyyyy

Anyway thanx everyone for your help. When i get it figured out i'll post the results for the next shmuck who gets this disease in his computer. Effeing assholes who have nothing better to do with their time then mess with good folks like us. These guys need TERB to fix their boredom. --- Kev

Kev, in addition to the usual virus scan and regular house/spyware cleaning on your pc, try using Opera as your main browser in future, and stick with email system such as yahoo.

http://www.opera.com

They have a free version as well.

I suppose you are stuck with xp, so leave that as it's. But IE is quite prone to unwanted " infections".

Thanx everyone, the virus is gone.

And no i am not on dialup its just that Cnet can be so slow. I dumped there server and went to another server and it only took about 10 seconds to download Adware.

This is the site that was presented to me to help me with my problem. I'll post it here for the next member who may have this virus. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=163614

Thanx all --- Kev
