I posted this question earlier in the lounge section and realized it belongs more in the technology section. I am planning on setting up an online bulletin board (not dealing with the same subject matter as this industry), and it would probably be open only to paid subscribers. I was wondering if someone could recommend some software and/or provide some tips. It appears that Vbulletin, which this site uses, is going downhill. I am also aware of some of the drawbacks of online forums (e.g. the need for constant managemment and the legal risk that a member may libel someone).

What makes you think VBulletin is going downhill ? It seems many sites these days are using Vbulletin. They are definitely the industry leader.
