Hi,

My best friend called me today to tell me to check my email because she emailed me a link to a Globe & Mail article that was published on August 26/04.
Besides being shocked, appauled and angry at what I was reading, I feel what they are doing is soooo wrong on soooo many levels.

I would really appreciate hearing from you guys & gals on this matter.

I guess it could have been a lot worse. They seem to be taking a fairly measured approach - at least for now. Problem is that you don't know where this will lead in the future.

Hey they already film us at banks, malls, convenience stores, gas stations, schools,... you name it. If you aren't trolling or plying you have nothing to worry about. Why would anyone go for street action when the call trade is so much easier and safer.

the only part i agree with is that it is in residential neighbourhoods. I dont like the idea of street action to be honest, but taping and releasing is a bit much

Don't go trolling for $20. BJ's from a girl addicted to crack. I.E. Most SW are very desperate... that's why they are there and these guys are taking full advantage of that.

I`d welcome one in my neighbourhood. The street action is quite disrupting for local business and I`d be happy to see it go somehwere else. It is illegal don`t you know.

BTW...

Annessa - This is the first time I remember that the police are directly involved in 'John Cams' But they (john cams) have been around for a long time. In the past it was the residents in some areas of town that the street action was becoming a big problem and they decided to take some action of their own.

The one thing that does bother me about this article though is that they do not let the plate # etc be shown. That means a housewife could see a blue Dodge Caravan and think it is her hubby when it is not. That could cause some problems that are not warranted. In general though; even though I think it's not the real solution that is needed to clean up street action... I am not totally against John Cams.

Same idea as cameras to monitor high crime areas. For example the police here would like to have more cameras on some downtown corners where there is lots of drug and/or gang activities. A whole bunch of rights advocates of course have jumped up and said this is an invasion of privacy etc. I say if your not doing anything wrong then why does it matter. Anyway where is your so-called privacy when you are walking or driving on a public street? HELLO!

Or the people who say that to take DNA from all criminals are again against their privacy. This to me is BS. Why is DNA more private then fingerprints? I would willingly give up my DNA anytime. Why... cause I know I never have and never will commit any crime that my DNA will be used to convict me. I.E. I am not a rapist or murderer... so why would I care if they have my DNA or my pic walking down the street.

Do you know how many lives have been ruined or even lost and we will never catch the culprits because of these rights advocates. Makes me sick to my stomach.

bullshit??

how would you feel if those crack whores were selling their asses on your block in front of your home?

theres no easy solution but as a homeowner, resident or parent in an area where this is happening, my only primary concern would be to ensure that my streets are safe for my children and myself. i understand there is an underlying social issue that needs to be addressed but call me selfish - thats not my first concern.

The gov could put a camera in my john and watch me crap for all I care.... nothing to hide here. And I think that everyone should have their DNA on file. If you are not doing anything wrong then why not?

What irks me is that no where in our constitution do we have the right to privacy! Scarey! But what's worse is that Hamilton police are planning to pick up this idea and go one step further and not do any blurring of the men, cause the women in the sex industry are the victims don't ya know? And to add to this they purpose carry their vid cams with them when their multi-task force agency vist (re: raid) MP and bawdy houses in Hamilton.

Pretty sad if you ask me. I think they should go after all the crack houses and home grows before you go chasing after victimless crimes like the sex industry.

Winnipeg Police are out to lunch

A friend just came back from a 2 month business trip to Winnipeg.
He tells me that there used to be a pretty active low track area. Unfortunately, the girls in that area tended to be quite young.

The police in their wisdom decided to really crack down on everyone in this area...the end result was that the girls just moved to another area

Of course the girls have moved around and have ended up in some residential areas. One quite close to my old high school
Daniel McIntyre Collegiate.

So now we have another problem that they are trying to deal with. Seems that the morality squad in Winnipeg is determined to eridicate all prostitution in Winnipeg.....While I applaud their efforts to crackdown on underaged prostitution in Winnipeg, it seems that they have taken it too far once again.

Someone out there does not seem to understand that as long as people have a sex drive prostitution will be part of our society.

My friend says that Winnipeg has become one great big reserve, and alot of the underaged streetwalkers are native canadians.

Clearly, the right to privacy is an issue. But there's also another aspect of the issue that hasn't been explored yet.

Is it possible that if there were these cameras in Vancouver's east end, the police might have been more successful in catching those responsible for the disappearance and deaths of prostitutes picked up in the area?

way out in left field
SOmething everyone failed to notice in that story is that they state "not everyone depicted is a sex trade worker or customer..." This is outright crap, this is like the japanese killing dolphins while fishing for tuna!

If anyone put my vehicle and my gf/wife/cousin/friend getting into my vehicle and posting it on that site would be in for one hell of a lawsuit! Maybe that's why the link to the video site isn't up? (or just the link to it is broken).

BTW: once you leave your house you are basically "public domain" and can be video taped or photographed freely.

I agree with neighbours trying to move the trade out of their neighbourhood but if I lived there, and they shot me, I would shoot them, post their pics on a site for "animal love"......btw, I would also post their address and (if I could get it) their phone number.
