I can see how the extra material can protect from the heat, but what about the humidity?
That is the real discomfort factor in Canada. The Middle East is hotter but arid.
exactly. I was out in Calgary one summer and it was 40 C and I was running around playing baseball and was perfectly comfortable. I couldn't do that here without melting. The dryness of the air allows the persperation to evaporate which allows our bodies to cool themselves.
As for black in the desert, men have been wearing black there for centuries.
I wear black in the summer too and it all depends on the fabric. If your skin can breathe it isn't as bad as you might think. Yes, they'd be a lot better in white for sure.
The next time you see a woman dressed that way, why not be polite and ask her? Now she may get offended but IMO, the more people know about their religion, the less mystery surrounds it and maybe we'd be more accepting?
One of the things I DID love about toronto is the diversity. I loved being able to walk down the street and seeing Indian women in saris, japanese in kimonos, men in caftans, women in burkhas. For the most part they are symbols of the diversity of the city and how (for the most part) we all could co-exist in peace.
BTW woodpekr, I believe those are saris not burhas.......and those women are hindu not muslim......
As for the woman in the middle east with the hairs showing: I'd say to the man: well, allah is all seeing and all powerful, even if I covered myself from head to toe he's STILL be able to see those hairs, I think maybe it is YOU who have a problem with them, not allah. BTW: my god LOVES my hair but I just wish he woldn't give me so many "bad hair days" lol......
