Who said that they were buds. In fact, the sports writers believe that Burke would have picked another coach if Fletcher hadn't made the move earlier. If Burke and had any buddy relationship with Wilson then it would be because Burke can't find a better coach for Team USA.

Wilson is a better coach than Burke is a general manager. It's not Wilson's fault that he has such a shallow talent pool with no blue chip prospects in the system. If it were not for Wilson the Leafs would be below the Devils in the standings.

Colangelo hasn't done much better but at least he's a high pick this summer; the Leafs are getting this:

I dont buy the argument that Wilson is a shitty coach or should be fired. You cant reach 600 wins and be out to lunch when it comes to coaching. Yes he is not a players coach or buddy buddy coach, but neither was Bowman, or Tortarella etc.

I'll give Burke a pass on Kessle, Seguin may end up being a front line player, but I dont think he will reach the same potential as Kessle, and neither will this years picks.

However, he did shit the bed with Komisarek. Apparently he's a better checker off the ice then he's on the ice. I love when it hear over paid, under producing and over priced athletes galavanting like kings when they produce like paupers.

You seem to forget that Wilson has 700 (now 701?) losses to go with his 600 wins. That's not even a mediocre record. It's a losing record.

Check his record with San Jose. Just average.

Wilsons record is not 701 loses, It would be interesting to see were you got that fact. His record
Wins 601
Loses 522
Ties 101
OTL 78

The mess the leafs are in are because Of JFJ with all those rediculas no movement clauses to all those players he gave. Look with Mats Sundin - he could have been traded to Detroit as a Rent-A-Player and the leafs would have gotten a few picks and a decent prospect. But no, Sundin said no the Leafs got screwed. Another case is Kaberle - there was a trade in place for Jeff Carter and a 1st round pick and again kaberle said No. The leafs got screwed again. Because of those 2 players that decided to not wave there no movement contract for a chance at a cup; the leafs got screwed out of some good players and are basically put 7 years back in the rebuilding stage. Just image Grabovski - Carter - Kessel.

I am not tring to defend the leafs for there mistakes but Don't blame Burke for getting a half sunken Titanic when he took over the team from JFJ. Give him time and he will build a team. His track record showes that he is able to. Look at Anaheim, they won the cup 3 years ago when he was in charge. Vancouver has always been a contender even after he left. He built there farm team and they have contending year after year.

In regards to Wilson, What can he do, he can only couch to the best of the teams ability. We dont have any crosbys or malkins on the team so its not like any wins will be handed to them. A good example of how good of a couch Wilson is that he was given some talent at the Olympics and he had that team going all the way to the finals. They werent even suppose to make it out of the knock out stage. Give this team some time and they will contend. Burke is a highly respected GM and knows how to build a team.

The leafs will contend not this year but in years to come.

Wilson should have been fired after that 7-0 loss. He doesn't get the most out of his players. Yes the talent pool is pretty thin but guys like Komisarek, Beauchemin and Phaneuf are playing much poorer than they should. That comes down to coaching.

If overtime wins are included in wins then overtime losses should be included in losses.
If he has 600 wins which includes overtime wins then he has 600 losses.
Why segregate overtime losses and not overtime wins.
Don't use smoke and mirrors. He's a middling coach at best.

Sorry. 101 sister kissers. So he's still a losing coach (601 and 602). He'll definitely hit 700 losses before 700 wins.

It's not just 3 pics ... Look at the big picture ... How many trades for draft pics are not being done cause Burke can't get worse cause he doesn't want to make the Bruins pic even better ... Senators GM is talking about cleaning house and getting draft pics for this year and he can do it cause this is a lost season and it doesn't matter if they get worse ... The Leafs don't have that luxuary ...
Look for the Sens to trade (or should I say give away) whoever the veterans the Leafs may want. It'll help them to dump salaries and improve their draft position. I'm sure the Isles knew Nabakov wasn't going to report to them and that that just falls right into their plan to tank.

I wonder if Burke should see what it would take to get Spezza ( sorry for spelling ) ???
I'm very doubtful if Spezza is the right centre for Kessel, but he's much better than what the Leafs have now. It depands on how desparate Burke is in trying to avoid finishing bottom 3. Spezza will probably get them to bottom 5th ? Other than Schenn and Krulemin, I can't see who else the Sens would be interested except another high draft pick.

BTW, I've been very impressed with Armstrong. He's very intellegent and effective in his role. Very seldom you'd see him make a dumb play. He's a great pickup by Burke.

Jason Spezza has a full no-trade contract. He would have to approve any deal.

He also has a $7,000,000 cap hit for 4 seasons after this one.

Unless

a) he wants out of Ottawa, and is willing to come to Toronto

and

b) Burke thinks he still has the skills

and

c) he is healthy long term

it would be a remarkably stupid deal for the Maple Leafs to make, even for a late round draft pick.

Waiting for Godot.

If James Reimer develops into a decent goalie let's remember that it was JFJ that drafted him. Admittedly the son of the pugnacious Canadien was a failure but he was also under the thumb of The All Highest. Burke enjoys full autonomy but he a critical error when he over estimated his talent pool after Mats Sundin left.

I found it foreboding that The All Highest decreed that Burke was the only candidate to become General Manager. It's a possibility that Burke may trade the 2012 first rounder for Jason Spezza - why not, his contract will not be renewed by The All Highest's successor.

= a .462 winning percentage...therefore a LOSING percentage...less than .500.

In regards to Wilson, What can he do, he can only couch to the best of the teams ability.
He should actually spend more time couching so that he can let someone with ability coach. Look at Nashville...probably the best run franchise in the league. Too bad they're in such a horrible market. Trotts has been a great coach there, with very little talent in the pool.

In a poll conducted by the NHLPA and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, in which 318 players participated in, the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach was voted as person players would least like to play for.
Not surprising....

Burke should keep Wilson for 2 more years and start a true rebuilding program. Forget about the "it's all about the playoff" crap.

Wilson has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he's the best coach to get the team into a lottery pick position.
