Right now is a good time to check at Walmart, your carrier or other carriers for a cell phone since many plans are now geared to students going back to school. I intend to upgrade mine - it hasn't worked in the US the last 2 times I was there but did before - next week but maintain my current plan with Freedom.
Mind you I'm not getting a burner but it's an option to upgrade your current cell and use your old cell as a burner or buy a new phone with a SIM and get an ESIM for to use your new cell as a burner phone.

Speakout may be disappearing at the end of the month. Many Speakout subscribers report receiving a message that is intentionally vague saying subscribers may experience service disruption after August 31, 2025 because they are phasing out the 3G network that Speakout uses. They are steering customers to Lucky Mobile who will give you a free sim card and set you up with your old number. However, Lucky Mobile does not provide a pay as you go plan. Plans start at $19.99/month. Way less flexible and less cost efficient for those who want a phone that is used infrequently.

What is not clear is: will Speakout continue to work for those that have a phone that supports 4G VoLTE? Can't get through to Speakout customer service. Anyone have any more info or insight on this?
I have a 7-11Speakout burner phone which is probably 10 years old.
I got the text referred to above, but wasn't sure what to make of it.
I guess I will have to monitor this thread to figure out what to do.
Hopefully, I can just get another 7-11 Speakout phone and carry on as usual, NOT at all interested in some kind of monthly plan.
I like just walking into my neighbourhood 7-11, and putting down the cash for $25 of airtime whenever a top-up is required.

What I would do , go to those cell phone repair places and buy a used phone.
Get several gmails accounts on the 3rd gmail I would use on the used cell.

This is what I did,
Freedom mobile had a deal you can pay 125/year at once. Cash sure. The service guy could have been a better help but he was new, you know where he was from. Since I got the plan for a family member I didn't mind, he wanted a piece of ID.
But it got me thinking for next time I will wait to find out what time is his break or ask him to show me something on purpose at the front of the store and ask him questions! if possible to get cell service with no ID and you slip him a 20 for the effort. As long as he knows what he is doing on the computer. You can pay cash. I suggest you buy a fake ID and keep it at work. You can use work postal code or parents but must remember by heart.

You can do luckymobile but it became to expensive. You can pay monthly 15.00 or the entire year at once but CC required online only.

This plan ( freedom) is good for those who partake once a month or more. But if you want anonymity and avoid situations, let's say you partake once every season it can be helpful. Just turn off the phone completely, remove sim card, hide it at work locker or office desk when ready to use plug cell 48 hours before at work and its' ready to use. It's not hard to think people. Don't have it at home if you are in a relationship.

Kodoo is now 19 a month for a prepaid plan. You can buy any phone. Like a used one from Orchid. You can buy a new sim and activate it online yourself. You can buy vouchers with cash at any Telus/koodo outlet. No CC required.

Unlimited texting, 100 minute a month. Easy.

I went to a Scarborough Wal-Mart about three years ago to buy a phone. They would not let me buy a phone without a plan.

Hmm, seems odd at least to me because my current phone I bought at Walmart and I was between plans at that time. Off topic a bit but what happens if you're going there to buy the phone as a gift for someone and they say no because you're not buying a plan which means they lose a sale of a phone. That's bad business.

Yeah, and then I went to the Freedom at Golden Mile Plaza and it was the same thing. So went to the Freedom across the street at Eglinton Square shopping Centre. They agreed to sell the phone and I decided to then get the plan with them.

Do you know if you can transfer a Speakout # to a new Koodo account?

Good bye speak out! What a great plan. Buy your minutes at a 7 11 store with cash. Update information and bam, you were good for one year.

I purchased an unlocked phone from Costco, cheap android but reliable. Also fancy enough to pull out in public, doesn’t look too suspicious.

I am seeking a similar plan, been looking….i see chatr has a prepaid plane for $100, 400 hundred minutes and 400 txt. May work for me…..Www.Chatrwirless.com - 4 G nation-wide talk & txt tab.

If someone is using this service can you please let me/us know how it works, information required or how you rate.

I have transferred numbers from one service to another in the past, at a Walmart location. However they needed to verify my identity asked for a driver’s licence. If service can be transferred you may be asked for id….

It's faster to get a new number than transfer. Transfer take one hour to change from cell provider to cell provider, but 3-5 business days from landline to cell. If burner phone why transfer number? just get a new one.

Agreed. That’s what I will do. I will ride out my current plan until the line goes dead. According to the FAQ, 7-11 balances are not transferable to any plan speakout has mentioned.

Besides Chatr, I am not aware of any pay as you go 365 plans. Live to hear what people are planning to do….

All this talk about registering a phone online with a phony name and email and all the other shenanigans you have to go through doesn't really count as a true burner phone by my criteria. I got a speak out phone around 10 years ago without having to any registration, phony or otherwise. That seems to be a thing of the past. As much for curiosity as necessity, I got a sim card from 711 for an old phone I had lying around. Registered it on proton mail with a phony name. All of which is probably readily traceable. Unlike my original speak out phone which is completely anonymous.

Thanks for the info about ID requirement. Waiting a few days not that big of an issue for me. I am thinking keeping # important because client records for prescreening, reliability etc, are filed and sorted by phone #.

I am going to NYC in Labour day weekend. Can't get a plan there for 'pay as you go".
So the world of Cell provider service market is changing big time.

Walk to any cell store and ask what options you have left.

I don’t know. You would have to ask them. If you do, that may require ID.

As for client files and stuff, just transfer your SIM card info. You don’t need to port your number to keep phone data. They can help you transfer in the store but backing up at home and restoring there should be easy enough. This all depends on the phone you have of course. iPhone, you simply have to touch the phones together now, it is that simple.

I’ll do the same. I just got SpeakOut to re-register on Hinge

My SpeakOut burner is dead. Died a few days ago. Hopefully SpeakOut's pay-as-you-go will return once/if they set it up with 4G.

Hey everyone check out this thread. It has a lot of good information. According to the responses you don't need to switch service providers as long as you have a 4G LTE compliant phone. Some of the responses also mention you will be fine even with a 4G VolTE compliant phone. See screen shots.
