OK, I think I'm losing my mind:p . Everytime I'm in my apt bathroom, I hear a buzzing noise like a ticking clock etc. It's coming from the tiles to the left of the showerhead.

Sometimes, the noise stops for a couple of minutes and then continues again. I already asked the neighbour if he has some sort of dehumidifier and he said no. He thinks it's just from "old pipes". Ironically, the bathroom shower and sink work fine.

Could this be true? The apt I live in was built in the 1960's. The newly drywalled ceiling and the new fuse box are holding up---lol. What could this buzzing noise in the bathroom be? It only started two weeks ago?

Sorry for the dumb question. Do the tradespeople on Terb think it could just be "worn pipes."? As usual, any advice or speculation would be much appreciated!

P.S. I am helping my fellow terbites in other ways. I got another 2 pms the other day asking me for the name of the "hot" optician I recommended---lol. Thanks again to the terbites who previously helped me with the "ceiling" and "fuse box" issues in my apt.

I'm confused.

In the first paragraph you say this noise comes from the left of the shower head.

Paragraph two you say the shower works fine.

Perhaps you actually are nuts as you suggest.

This is my professional opinion with your perceived problem with you pipes.

Invoice is being mailed...

The neighbors buried something behind the wall and then retiled thier apt. and will not confess who they buried behind the wall. The buzzing you hear is thier cell phone/pager or something going off occasionally.

You're watching scream. Were about freaking you out. Keep this in mind while watching scream.

Not your shower but another unit could be dripping and you hear the water slowly flowing in the pipes.

We had that happen in my home, the outside water spout was left open but a hose with a nossle was hook up but the nossle had a very little leak and the pipes made a strange noise inside the house. Took a little while to find that we left the spout open, closed it and the noise was gone.

Your case you need to find the unit with the leaky faucet....good luck, some people don't care.

Thanks for the response:) . You're right a lot of people in my building wouldn't care. Especially the Super. Normally every year I get my Super a xmas present. I'm not sure about this year. I know for a fact that the Superintendent can't stand me.

Thanks again for the explanation!

Buzzing can be caused by an electric exhaust fan motor that has seized or by a tap/valve that is shuddering because it is only partially open/closed. Toilet tanks can do that also.

Thanks for the response rub:) . It is more a buzzing noise. I should start a new thread entitled " are tenants obligated to get their supers xmas presents"? ---lol

No way.

Well, ask yourself this if there is a problem do they come and fix it right away or at best in a good timely manner that is acceptable to you? Or does things get done a year later after numerous mentioning of the job you wish to have done?

If this is your super get them a stocking or even a old sweaty sock full of something rotten and leave it at thier door when nobody is looking with a note saying faster service would have gotten you a bottle of wine instead of something stinky that resembles your services.

We used to get a buzzing noise coming from our downstairs bathroom ceiling, once in a while, then it would stop. One night in the middle of the night it woke us up, so I opened up the ceiling, and it was an old doorbell, that was still wired to a transformer. For whatever reason, it seems that as doorbells age, they buzz. So we tore it out, now we have a giant hole in the ceiling, but it is better than the buzzing.

Here's some questions:
1) is it continuous or intermittent?
2) Did it occur when the heat came on in the building?
3) Is this the first cold season you've spent in that apartment?

I ask because I lived in a building and in the bedroom, I had a sound like a cable slapping against the side of the building. It ended up being the hot water heat pipe that ran inside that wall was "lose" and when the heat came on, the pipes vibrated slightly. I'm not sure if it was a circulating pump or what but I moved out before it was fixed.

Another cause is air in the water pipes but that usually goes away after you turn the faucet on.....(and it is usually sounding quite violent for a second).

1. It is intermittent. 2. The buzzing noise did start occuring as the heat came on in the building. 3. I've been in this apt for 5 years and this is the first time that this buzzing noise has occured.

As I said upthread, the buzzing noise just began about two weeks ago for the first time ever. Sometimes it lasts for a couple of hours and then stops for a couple of hours:confused: .

It could be something to do with the heat - particularly a pump or air in a pipe, but then again with the buzzing it could be electrical.
