Labor Party Claims Win in Australia
From Associated Press
November 24, 2007 4:56 AM EST

SYDNEY, Australia - The deputy leader of the opposition Labor Party said Saturday that her party has won Australia's election.

"On the numbers we've seen tonight, Labor is going to form a government," Julia Gillard said on Australian Broadcasting Corp. television.

If Labor wins, leader Kevin Rudd would become Australia's first new prime minister in a dozen years, a win that would usher in major changes on the country's approach to global warming and the Iraq war.

More to due with issues internal to the Australian economy than anything else.

Very true, but it nice to see the Sheepdog go off into retirement with the Poodle.

BTW, the new government of Poland will be pulling out troops from Iraq.

Howard's been in power for 12 years, the voters just wanted a change. Yes could be one less vote on side of rationality at the UN - the US, Canada and Australia have been voting against these ridiculous one sided resolutions sponsored by dictators and European cockroaches. Anything from condemning Israel (what else is new) to global warming to indigenous peoples.

There is much more to life in Canada than Kyoto and the war in Iraq (a war in which Canada is not a participant, by the way). Harper is doing a great job and (gasp) is actually keeping his word.

A great way to make Canada a better country, IMO, would be to take all the Canadian Bush haters who take out their hatred of the US right, on Steven Harper, and send them to the States. The Conservative Party is a moderate centrist party, and Harper is not Bush. But, I guess everyone has to have someone to hate.

There are some of us here on this forum that are getting just a bit tired of
the suggestion that is posted in almost every thread, that anybody that
disagrees with the conservative agenda "should be sent off to somewhere".

This suggestion tells us a lot about the people who post it. I believe the
technical word for them is fascists.

Bingo, you've caught me out. I, like all Canadian conservatives, am a Nazi at heart.

ps. it was the communists, by the way, who were the masters of re-settlement. No matter what their stripe, Soviet, Chinese, Vietnamese, they seemed to be obsessed with relocating dissenters. So to follow your "logic", it is the lefties who would shuck the normals out of the country, should they somehow manage to ever form a government-worthy party.

leftist, rightist, I couldn't care less what you are or aspire to.
Your post shows totalitarian tendencies.

You have no right whatsoever to suggest other canadians should be sent
packing. It is unbecoming.

If you were Canadian, you'd know that's not true. :)

...actually they didn't just want a change of face, Howard had been ignoring for several years now, polls that pointed towards a dislike for the Iraq policy and the Conservative position on Kyoto - Auzzies have more to lose with greenhouse gases from emerging Asian economies and irate Muslims in the neighborhood.

Howard didn't listen, now he's gone - next Harper.

In other words Howard wasn't an appeasing coward when it comes to the terror cult. Now labour is in they will soften up Aus just like they have in continental Eurabia.

Not a good thing.

LOL
Fear not Laddie.
So what if Australia pulls out and leaves Dubya and you with one less coalition member. This leaves mainly the US, Israel, France and you...so you are among good friends & allies, eh?.....:p

You can't be serious. There is nothing special about Harper's leadership and he certainly hasn't kept his word. There are a few things he's done that I support, such as restoring our military. But he's either failed, lied, underperformed or flip-flopped on the following:

He couldn't navigate his crime reduction / bail revision bills through the house so we still have gang bangers committing murders while they are out on bail. When he was in opposition, he prevented Martin from getting similar bills passed into law so, for almost 3 years now, he's been a great help to the violent criminals who so often make headlines here in Toronto and elsewhere in Canada. He HAS managed to wreck the gun-contol bill however, which is a pretty good indication of his misguided priorities.

He's been a major underachiever on the environment - even to the point of cutting the budget for GHG / climate change research and hiring the same slimeball spin doctor who: A) helped GWB to downplay and misrepresent the threat of global warming with his junk science etc B) once helped the Tobacco lobby to undermine the mounting evidence about the harmful effects of smoking.

He squandered a large chunk of Canada's surplus in his first "something-for-everyone" budget which accomplished only a single point reduction of the GST and blatantly pandered to Quebec on the eve of their provincial election.

He flip-flopped on taxing income trusts.

He broke his promise about restoring grassroots democracy at the riding level.

He backed away from promises to the provinces about the equalization formula and resources.

He promised armed icebreakers but then downgraded them to much smaller vessels that will have to avoid much of the arctic during the winter months.

He's trying to screw Ontario out of 11 federal seats in the next seat redistribution but is allowing AB & BC their full increase. You have to seriously question his commitment to democratic principles and his grand vision for Canada when he tries to short-change one of Canada's fastest growing provinces but not the others. This is a flawed and shortsighted leader.

He was clearly being dishonest and incompetent in his handling of the issue surrounding the torture and mistreatment of Afghan detainees.

His "in and out" election funding scheme violated our election financing laws so one has to question his overall integrity. This guy is becoming notorious for cheating or, at the very least, bending the rules to suit his needs.

Which polls are you looking at? They must be different than the ones Dion is viewing (while hiding in obscurity).

Get over it, Your mind needs a break. I know it is irritating and maybe even frustrating that Dion refuses to play by the Harper playbook.

But, really, you can do nothing about it.
