'' For presidential and gubernatorial elections in California, state law limits voting to U.S. citizens, but the system operates entirely on the honor system. Under California Elections Code Section 2111, a person proves citizenship by signing an affidavit of registration under penalty of perjury. In practice, this means voters simply check a box and sign. There is no verification of actual citizenship status. ''

And? The idea here is to cheat, like Texas did, to redraw the electoral map to favour democrats.

Yeah, right, they did. If it were not for gerrymandering, the gop would have not won in 40 years. The economy would have been so much better. It would not cost american 5k to take an ambulance ride.
You're confused (again). You're thinking with your heart and not you're head. The metrics are simple if you just think through it.

The Republicans won over half the vote for the House last year. They routinely win a majority of House votes.

California as been fixing their elections for years now...
You can't seem to explain to emotional people that California with 60% Democrats already has 43 of 52 seats.

I can't imagine waking up every day and thinking the world started in 2016.

Just asking for a friend, does gerrymandering have anything to do with Republicans doing better than they should be doing in winning seats?

Mind you, didn't Biden's admin have more seats in the House his first two years??

I suppose it makes some feel good, but the California gerrymandering vote is a pyrrhic victory.

Blue States like Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland and yes California have squeezed the most out of their gerrymandered maps. Gerrymandering going forward significantly favors the Republicans as they have generally been a bit more reasonable with their Congressional gerrymandering.

You're smarter than some of our whiny members.

Just asking for a cerebral friend, doesn't looking at the aggregate House voting totals by party give us a reasonable indication of voter preferences in that election?

PS- The 2022 midterm you are referencing had the Republicans receiving 50.0% of the aggregate House vote nationally to the Democrats 47.3%. The House seats were divided 51% Republican vs. 49% Democrats.

Why link to an article that refutes your own final statement?

What emerges from this state-by-state overview is that beyond Texas and Ohio, Republicans appear to have some other places where they hypothetically could attempt redraws just by the state legislatures and governors deciding that they want new maps, likely with the urging of Trump. Democrats, meanwhile, generally have many more obstacles in the states they control.
Why attempt to make such a statement at all and not just stop at the truth that Republicans are more likely to gain from a redistricting war?

Look I've said before, I don't like gerrymandering.

I have to be honest with myself. I cannot feign disgust and pretend that one party is evil when they gerrymander districts and the other is righteous when they carve unrepresentative districts.

Good for California Democrats. They will have a bluer Congressional map. I don't think that yields any political benefits to the State or to the national party.

EDIT: It was a good thing for Gavin Newsom. He gets to look like a leader for Democrats. Bringing this proposition vote home in a Bluer than Blue state is however not a huge achievement.
