I fucking hate my veins. Besides never being able to do the good drugs (jokes) I can’t get blood taken without it being an issue.

Today it was three vials of blood needed so not much and they needed three locations because my veins collapse. And getting blood from your hand hurts just in case you didn’t know.

They say drink water. About 500ml 20-30 mins before getting blood taken but even that doesn’t help. Apparently that is to help blood flow for dehydration but not for collapsing veins.

I mean in hospital, they end up having to go for either my hand, which is hard because I would usually have an IV in one hand and then they have no choice but to go for the ankle which fucking hurts hand.

I don’t know what to do and Dr. Google ain’t givin’ me shit on how to fix this.

Anyone have a suggestion?

A vigorous physical activity immediately before your phlebotomist pokes you. (No pun intended) I’ve never noticed how long my veins stay “popped out” but they do pop out quite a bit if I do some strenuous arm exercises. The timing would be critical I imagine.

Too many orgasms takes too much blood from elsewhere in the body. Not that bad a problem to have. Enjoy the orgasms but not the bloodwork.

Merry Christmas Jenesis.

I get what you saying but I don’t know if that will stop the collapsing. That will plump them up for sure which will make them easy to find but my issue is once they pierce the vein, it says fuck you and just collapses and says no blood for you.

But I have blood work appointment for early January so I will give it a try.

Just read and post in a bunch of TERB threads when you arrive at the Dr.'s office. By the time they are ready to draw blood, you'll already have a very prominent deep blue vein bulging out in your forehead, all ready to be exploited!

Not even your family doctor can help you? I got 5 blood work done in a span of a week because I went and had hernia surgery (umbilical) it fucking sucks and they took 3 in my left arm and 2 on my right...i was bruised up on my left arm because of the needles....are you taking blood thinners? or any medications? that could be a factor.

They say to drink water. But I do and it only helps them find the vein, doesn’t seem to stop the collapsing. No thinners or anything. No other meds complications, this has been happening my whole life. Pregnancy was horrible. They take so much blood and my veins were worse during those months.

Google says once it has happened, there is nothing you can do but let it heal. Whatever that means. Nothing to help prevent it. Except for instruction to the person drawing the blood like needle size and shit but I know it is not their fault either. Small gauge needles, they use the tourniquet, the whole nine. Everything they are suppose to do. I even warn them about it so they know and can take precautions. Nothing helps.

LMAO - If only TERB made me mad. GRRRRRR.

I laugh too much on this board. I need to learn to have the “reviews culture is bad” mentality. Not quite there yet but great suggestion. LOL.

Ask them to use smaller needles. I believe they are called butterfly needles, used commonly with children. I have family members who have the same issue as you and heard them discuss this option, passing it along to each other.

Happy Holidays Jenesis.

Yes.

I only have one good vein and if they miss then I go through the same stuff you do.

If you are in a hospital, instead just letting whoever is there do it, make a request for an I.V. nurse. They are the best. You may have to wait a bit, but it's worth the wait, (like it's worth the drive to Acton....an advertisement).

I also go for routine blood work a couple of times a year and the ladies who work in the commercial labs are also excellent. They never miss. They do it all day long, just like the I.V. nurses.

Getting the right nurse makes a world of difference. You probably don’t get to pick though. I’ve had one poke me 8 times before calling someone else who did it with ease.

Happy Holidays. And thanks for the suggestion but they already use those on me. LOL.

I will give this a go but the problem is not finding the vein. It is while the needle is already in my vein, it collapses. They can get it in the vein on the first try but I get one, maybe two vials of blood and poof - the vein collapses and we need to start with another one.

I will ask for IV nurse for sure. And I do use a lab where that is all the lady does but you never know. Thanks

Firing your vein coach won't help; after all, firing the coach didn't stop the Leafs from collapsing...

I go through the same problem. Once before hip surgery it took 9 times to get a line in. Felt like a pin cushion. I tell them each time, what works best for me on a hospital environment is a warm blanket. They keep about 6 in a warmer, works every time. Or if at a clinic, I exercise the arm & squeeze my hand for 1min to get the blood flowing

A warm blanket! That is an idea I have not tried. I will remember that. Thank you

Finding the vein is one issue. I suspect that the I.V. nurse has had to deal with other issues as well and maybe collapsing veins is another that they may have a trick up their sleeve for. (Pun , semi-intended.)
