It's been a couple years for me but when I drove around the US for 4 years the one thing I hated & had to always ask them not to do....
They put GRAVY on everything oh & don't forget the biscuit; no wonder most truck drivers are so overweight. I hate Gravy maybe a little on my turkey but that’s once or twice a year but the Americans love their Gravy, I can't tell you how many times my stomach would turn in the morning watching these guys wolf down a huge plate of sausage with Gravy & biscuits. Come on Magic you know what I'm talking about. My stomach is turning now just thinking about it..aaahhh why did I click on this thread so early in the morning. I'm so glad I'm Canadian & enjoy my Timmy's with a blueberry bagel, maybe that's my secret to staying in shape. :p

Ummmmmmm Sausage, biskets and gravy.......Hold the grits.

Canada: We came up with the debit system (Interac) first.
States: Still stuck on the old credit card system. Took Visa/Mastercard a few years to introduce the check card system.

Canada: We have a 16 lane highway called 401. 407 is the first all electronic toll system capturing the license plate. The highways in Toronto are well-lit.
States: The roads are narrow and not user-friendly. Can get lost very easily. Also most urban areas are not well-lit at night. For the toll system, the person still sits at the booth and collects the money.

Canada: TTC subways are much nicer and more advanced. When the subway stops, the breaking instant. More difficult to get on a bus/subway without paying. They have physical barriers to prevent u from boarding.
States: I can't say that for NY or any other surrounding areas. The facilities are old and they have leaks from the ceiling. The faclities are not as nice. Other states, some trolleys or buses wont even charge u to get on the bus (ie Orange County).

Canada: Canada Post has very good hours. Something like 9-5.
States: United States post on Saturday had hours like 8am-11am. 3 hours?!

Canada: Dentists, doctors have a nice upscale facility. Its manditory that you have an office.
States: If you wanna run the business out of your small little house, go for it. Actually several business can share a house. They take different rooms.

In the US we can sue the shit out of medical professional for being human but try to sue a lawyer and you find no lawyers will help.

Where in Canada?

Last time I was the dentist in the States they charged $xx for one side of the mouth, wait 30 days, then continue to do the right side for $xx. In Canada they did everything at once and spent a good couple of hours, so I didn't have to come back.

Huh? Have had a US debit card since the late 90s. Many offer frequent flyer miles too.

The DC Metro is clean and modern, and does not allow food/drink or loud stereos playing. It also features a SmartCard RFID payment system, which I have not seen in Canada yet. Surveillance cameras will take care of turnstile jumpers, and panhandlers are abruptly dealt with.

Depends on which post office you go to. There is one in Long Island that is open 7 days/24 hours. In addition, the USPS website has many services available online.

The biggest difference is that Canadians know more about the US than vice versa.

It's spelled touque.
Out is the same in both countries.
Sneakers or running shoes in both countries. Rarely hear runners.
We have milk cartons in Canada as well as bags.
I would argue "colour" is spelled "color" and "check" is not only a mark but a negotiable instrument and not spelled "cheque"

As far as "out" I hate to break it to my Canadian friends but it sounds like "ooooooooouuutt" when a Canadian pronounces it. I am from New York and I am sure there are words I pronounce differently than Canadians.

I hear "runners" more than sneakers at least in the Toronto area.

We have no "bags" of milk in the states.

How about IRA (individual retirement accounts) vs. RRSP's or SSN (social security number) vs. SIN.

401k plan in the states - not sure if an equivalent offered in Canada.

"neesh" in Canada / "Nich" in States - (pronunciation)

Wont find it in the states but you can get it at Burger King in Canada.
Talk about health food???
They should offer a free cardio stress test with every order.

Canada: Great place to hobby safely, economically, with beautiful women

USA: you run the very real risk of getting busted, it's double or triple the price of here in US dollars, and the women are fat pigs.

There in my brothers lays the most important difference in the world.

In Canada we not only have gay marrage, but they even get their own Homo milk, I don't think they have the latter in the states. ;)

Me I stick with Skim, nothing wrong with homo milk, it just isn't my lifestyle preference.

In Canada the Queens get their own university.

Clearly homo.

Actually, the spelling of colour is as per the British. Since they invented the King's English, I'll go with colour.

Cheque is also correct and stems from the British word "Exchequer" which is the British Ministry of Finance. The Chancellor of the Exchequer started up in the mid 1500's, so, again, the proper spelling is cheque.

Agree on the geography, perhaps thats a function of media coverage though, both television and newspaper.

Out is definitely not the same... pronounciation among native Canadians is far different (oooot) than in the USA.

Yes, you have cartons, bags and jugs of milk in Canada, but we do not have bags in the USA.

Did someone forget to mention the whole metric measurement thing? To me, that's one of the major differences.

Add in dollar coins and dollar bills.
