Being an American I would certainly be in trouble if I did not have private health insurance. VERY costly, but necessary. On the other hand, I have been told a lot of the top docs in Canada are leaving to come to the states to practice which is leaving Canada with a serious shortage of medical providers. My Canadian friends tell me it is hard, if not impossible, to book a time for a MRI that is less than 6 months away or a timely appointment with a specialist. If the brain drain continues, I fear my Canadian friends will be visiting me in the states and asking help for competent medical care. All things being equal, I think the edge goes to the states on this one if you can afford the medical insurance.
My sweetie's MRI, here in TERBtown, was booked and done in less than a week. I'll let ya' know about the specialists; their booking process began Friday PM. The telling word was the "if" in your last sentence. My Mom-in-common-law woulda been bankrupted by her ailments long ago, had she not had Ford's employee survivor benefits. Of course Ford's now claiming that's a big cause of their bankruptcy. Bottom line is US system costs more but delivers less overall, though a given well-to-do person can do well by it.

Canada: We seem to produce delusional people like flies, people like Brotherman who either never travel, or when they do, do so with maple-leaf shaded glasses that don't permit them to see that other places can be better than Canada. Like the Washington Metro...far superior to the dingy, antiquated TTC.

USA: They don't give a toss about the rest of the world.
You really don't know what your talking about. Tell me. Where are you from? What is your citizenship? Does your mom know your talking like this?

Where have you lived, under a rock?

I would agree you are SOL if you are very sick in the states, want the best doctors and don't have medical insurance. On the other hand, the uninsured and indigent get medicaid coverage and that certainly covers a lot of medical procedures with decent medical care. I would not agree that our system delivers less overall as medical care seems superior than in Canada or anywhere in the world for that matter. I base this solely on the fact that when world leaders such as Kings, Presidents, Prime Ministers, etc. are ill, they seem to gravitate to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC or Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota or Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio or Johns Hopkins in Baltimore Maryland.

Can't agree with you based on personal experiences.

But you will find many who do based on liberal media.

Can't argue with personal experience but I would say that their is a huge "brain drain" from Canada to the States. Most Doctors want to make money and the only way to make big money as a doctor is in the States. If that is the case, then the best Canadian trained docs are leaving - bad for Canada, good for the States.
