It has been obvious for a while now, that there are two classes of canadian
citizens. Shamefull.

I wish everybody would understand, that if we accept that some citizens have less
rights than others, it is only a question of time before we ourselves become part of
a lesser rights group.

He should read Kafka to appreciate the ridiculousness of this.

If they think he is a terrorist, bring him home and lock him up upon arrival. Having him live in a Canadian embassy lobby for years is stupid beyond belief. If he is on the no fly list, there are ships that cross the pond to Halifax.

If we accept a government that does what it wants without regard for laws or rights, we'll find them doing it to us someday.

This is a case where CSIS conspired to have a Canadian citizen arrested and tortured while abroad, and where the Canadian government has transparently used any excuse to deny him his rights, each time setting a standard he has met, then setting a new, more difficult one.

Finally, by plain ministerial decree, they've said he cannot come home, because they simply refuse to allow it, no other reasons given. There's justice, and high regard for human rights and the rule of law for you. Conservative voters should be ashamed for their chosen representatives.

We need a better way of dealing with traitors. There ought to be some proper due process by which they can be stripped of their Canadian citizenship.

This guy sounds like a good candidate as do the entire Khadr family.

I agree with people up thread that it's dangerous to allow the government to decide when to honour rights and when to ignore them. Rights are critically important and the government has to follow its own laws--we all depend on that.

We do, however, need a better way of dealing with traitors, which is what this guy appears to be. It should be a proper legal process with a judge or jury making a competent decision.

Maybe the Canadian government has it reasons for not wanting him back (other then simple view expressed by other here). He is still, I assume, also a citizen of Sudan...

Actually Lanc, the demographics are moving against you. When you're downtown, you will probably realize YOU no longer look Canadian. You may find yourself stranded in the lobby of the Canadian Embassy in the UK some day.

The Canadian charter of rights also provides all citizens with an unfettered right of return.

Look like thanks to Harper, when this guys gets back we will be writing him a cheque for $10M for violating his rights. What a bunch of twits.

In what way does this guy appear to be a traitor? CSIS and the RCMP have both written that they have no evidence of such activities on his part.

I'd like to see a pic of Lancs, who presumably thinks he looks like a Canadian. Some might disagree. The last time I recall a government using appearance to determine nationality, we were at war with it, and prosecuted its surviving leaders at Nuremburg.

EDIT: I've reflected a bit, and realize my Nuremburg comment's untrue. Rwanda, Biafra and the former Yugoslavia are only a few such examples since then; there have been many other example of such hateful, racist, pig-ignorance since WWII. All the more reason to find such statements loathsome.

CSIS or the CIA probably have confidential files on what this guy is all about and this information is not being released to the public.
My gut feeling from looking at him for two seconds is that this guy is not going to bring anything to the country that will help it along.

If they have no proof of him being a terrorist it is one thing but they did arrest him once for it.

The US and the UN both have him on their lists. Why?

What my BIGGEST issue with some canadian citizens is they come in as refugees from a country and once they get their citizenship they go back to the country they claimed to be a refugee from and get married then bring over their parents, grandparents, wife, In-laws etc. If you're a refugee why go back?

Something tells me that CSIS and the RCMP didn't gather enough intelligence to sway the UN and the US which means that the UN and US have information they are not sharing with Canada. Maybe the PM was made aware of this and told the minister he was considered a threat to national security? No one knows all the details but as for me I am impressed that a government would have the balls to say "If you're a threat to this country stay the fuck out". Think back to the FLQ Crisis. Trudeau had the balls to fix it then. Here we are now. Somehow this guy is a threat to this country's security. You really want a traitor in the country? In jail here he is a burden. He is contriving to cause a threat to all of our security and you still want to give him a place to stay and 3 meals a day? I understand takign care of your fellow man but if your fellow man is stabbing at you with a knife should you really be taking care of him?

Anyone who has a dual citizenship and is a threat to this country's security should not be allowed to remain a citizen of this country. You must NEVER bite the hand that feeds you. Somewhere, someone has enough proof on this guy that keeps him on the lists. Why don't we kow about it?

I have seen too many "refugees" break the laws, get into drug trafficking, cause murder. Seriously if you're a refugee and you like the freedoms associated with canada DO NOT ABUSE THOSE FREEDOMS.

I may sound hard but you must respect people around you to be respected and if you know of proplr who are involved in terrorist activities you tell them to stop or report them. He is believed to be a threat to national security, why should he come back? You wouldn't keep a person who has actively tried to beat you or kill you in your house why should we keep a citizen who is a threat to security in here?
