Canada versus Sweden tonight in Edmonton the final pre-exhibition game and watch out for rising stars Scott Harrington and Ryan Murray. Canada looks good and scores a lot of goals. They are all strong two-way players and solid goaltending is the key. PASSION AND GOLD !!!! Only backlash, there no Leaf draft picks on the team.

Oooops, 3-1 after 1 but its good to be tested. All i kept thinking was how big the Swedes look! They are fast too. They'll be a good test as usual. Heard Bob McKenzie say that the Americans might be the team to beat this year

Looked alot better in the 3rd and showed some teamwork in coming back. THis is what warm up games are for. Still think theyll be in the top three but where and how they turnout still looks like a work in progress. Good game by my boy Boone!!!

We are the only country that actually cares about this event.
Sure it's great to win in a hockey mad country but it's really a nothing event worldwide.
I went to some games way back in '97 in Geneva, Switzerland and one game we went to Finland/USA there were maybe 100 people there.
Do I hope Canada wins? Yes.
Am I under the illusion that anyone worldwide cares? No.

Is there anyone who did not already know this ? I seriously doubt it.
Did I ever care what the rest of the world thought of this championship ? Not in the least.

Do I want Canada to win ? YES ! With all my heart !

So why did you feel the need to post this ? Because you always wanted to be the Grinch ?

No. Just making a comment.
Glad you already knew this - because, well, you know everything but maybe some didn't.
I too hope we win gold!
I kind of equate it to soccer - evryone in the world cares about soccer but in North America not so much.

Like I said most North Amercians don't care about soccer but go to most countries and it's life and death.
I just find it interesting.
That's all.

I love this tournament. To me it's the hockey highlight of the year. Way more exciting than the never ending Stanley Cup playoffs that drag into summer.

Agreed.
I am actually enjoying the OHL right now and have been to several games this year.
It's actually more entertaining than an NHL game.

Add this tournament to the inventions that this country's media has had massive hype created around. Outside of Canada nobody cares about it, even in hockey mad places like Sweden and Russia. I was in Russia during the 2001 tournament and besides their team's home games, the tournament couldnt draw anyone. Don't get me wrong I love seeing a Canadian win something on the international stage, but let's keep some perspective here and realize the importance of this tournament. This ranks right up there with the other "awesome important event" known as NHL trade deadline day, 9 straight hours of coverage by both sports networks to tell us how the Nashville Predators traded Johann Magnusson to the Florida Panthers for a 7th round pick!!!

The Spengler Cup started today as well with the Canada Selects defeating HC Vitkovice (Czech Champions) 7-1.
Not as popular in Canada as the juniours but interesting to watch Marty Turco try to resurrect his career.
Marc Crawford is coaching and some former NHLers Glen Metropolit, Antony Pettis, and Rico Fata suiting up for Canada.
Almost all the Canadians are playing in Switzerland or Germany but sign up to represent Canada at the Davos Tournament every year.

Talk about incredibly dull! The hockey at the Spengler Cup is unwatchable. The better Junior teams could beat those teams pretty easily.
Anyone who thinks the World Junior Hockey Championship is dull or uninteresting just doesn't like or know anything about hockey.
Oh yeah 100% right - the juniors are exciting but I find the Spengler interesting enough. Not at all dull but certainly not up the level of the excitement of the WJHC for most Canadians.
