I am going to the south US in a few days 😭 I do not feel particularly safe knowing controllers are not paid, take all sick days as possible, and some airports rely on controllers from nearby airport.

It totally relies on the POTUS shoulder to keep the government open. Said Trump a few years ago. Damn, for once, he was correct.

As for this crash, it isn't very pleasant. The MD plane crashed into many airport facilities, destroying a path of about 400 meters on the ground. Most probably, many ground fatalities we do not know yet.

Fully loaded with fuel, as tragic as this is it could have been 100x worse depending on where it came down. Just imagine the same thing happening at Pearson and a plane crashing just north of Airport road.

Yeah, I used to live near the airport, mostly under the holding pattern area....But, the majority of properties close to the airport are industrial, so a similar crash would still kill people, but it would be mostly warehouse and factories....

Interesting note: I saw Pearson's emergency preparedness binder about 25 years ago, and if a plane cannot make it to the airport, they are to ditch in Lake Ontario...
