Can some one tell me if I'm being ripped off by the guy who wants to fix the stairs leading up to my wooden porch.

He wants $700 to do 6 or 7 four to five foot wide steps with railings to hold onto, he's also gonna make it a bit less steep and put in a bit of a ramp at the bottom. The work is mostly woodwork

What do you think, I thought I should be paying closer to 400, but nobody will come out to my house for that amount.

For TO it seems reasonable - we'd likely pay half that here (from pressure treat lumber) but labour rates are higher in to so it makes sense. If you are concerned ask for a detailed breakdown. A tip I learned from my last company - for anything over $500 get 3 quotes from reputable companies - the cheapest isn't always the best of course but doing this should let you know if it is in line.

ummm being one of those guys that Charges Btwn 30 & 60 per hour :) from what you are telling me that is probably just about the right price ... But I too woul recommend talking Zoickss Suggestion and get a few prices
