I was just having some drinks with a friend and he said that he went to the casino over the weekend and 81 close to $600 playing blackjack and roulette and he said the most nights he hits a nice profit

So I’m gonna take $500 and see what I can do

any ideas or tips on what games to try that have the best odds of winning?

At a SP near me
Look at the $500 as fun money, and be prepared to loose it all and be happy about it.
If the $500 is not your fun money, dont go.

Most casino clients definitely do not make money most nights.
This about sums it up. The odds of winning is slightly in the casino’s favour, so the longer you play, the better chance they win over time. This is why they can spend billions building casinos in Vegas.

Blackjack gives you the most control since you have the ability to make more decisions and choices. But with 8 decks in the shoe… the odds aren’t in your favour.

Roulette can work if you play a “system”… a steady climb pays out less but gives you more time/fun at the table.

A good craps table is where all the fun is at… I don’t understand it and end up just mirroring bets

Baccarat is probably the best in what I call “lucky odds”. Bet player or bet banker… that’s it… don’t play any of the little side bets (maybe play insurance if you want)

HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY! Define a goal amount to win… say $500 profit. Cash in/pocket your original bankroll and play your profits… IF you hit your win target, cash in and walk.

The casino EXPECTS your dopamine to take over and make you feel like you can’t lose. So casino’s win because the majority of gamblers chase losses AND wins.

I did this once at 3:00am hammered out of my mind. Just followed what the guy making the most noise was doing.
Woke up the next day with $200 worth of chips in my pocket. More than I stared with so... lol... and from what I remember it was a laugh.

Consider that $500 as an expense...you might double it or might lose it...I would bet that on a 1.5hr session with an agency girl....at least youre winning on that moment.

Should I have a time limit in my head?
Like play half an hour and take a break sort of thing?

Don't chase your losses. Lots of players have lost more than they planned to after coming back from being "a lot down" to being "just a little bit down" and then trying to get fully back to "even".

Set a time and loss limit and stick to whichever comes first at the tables, even if you're up when the time limit arrives...

Get a basic strategy book on Blackjack, such as "Playing Blackjack As A Business", by Lawrence Revere. Study and learn the basic strategy charts, and follow them to the letter You will reduce the house edge to about 1.4%, but no less. Forget "card counting" in a 6 or 8 deck shoe.

Don't "get a hunch and bet a bunch".

At roulette, and other casino games, there are no betting systems that work. Any system, such as "Martingale", that relies on doubling your bet after a loss, is ultimately foiled by the house limit on the amount you can bet on one spin of the roulette wheel, one roll of the dice, or one hand of a card game, not to mention the size of your bankroll or how much credit the casino will give you. And these games can be "streaky", with the result that when you hit that limit, and lose the next spin, roll, or hand, you will have lost a lot of money.

Depends which Casino you play and what facilities they have...I go to Pickering Casino...they have restaurants outside, they have a lounge area where they televise sports... It really depends on you how much time you want to spend and what is your purpose going in...I just go there to kill time...not win big...

Don't willingly go down the rabbit hole of gambling... or as the Provincial Mafia calls it "gaming". Marketing it as good family entertainment!

The ONLY winner in gambling is the house. Full stop. Period. End of conversation.

Don't listen to anyone who says there is a system, or if one table or machine is not "lucky" then move to the next one. The odds are the odds and while casinos can programme the random number generators that come up with winning combinations, certain boundaries are still programmable to maintain the desired payout of a particular machine.

Winning big the first time out is the WORST thing to happen to YOU and the BEST thing for the gambling racket. That endorphine rush of winning gets burned in your brain and you can easily get hooked. And don't think YOU are exceptional. Nobody's grandmother goes into a casino thinking that they will get hooked. Yet, there they are... planted in front of slot machines all day long. Nobody is immune.

The house always wins.

I liken it to just trying heroin. Why introduce a new vice into your life that can ONLY make life worse? We all know of people or heard stories of gambling ruining families, friendships, credit ratings, business, losing their life savings, house, stealing and embezzling or committing suicide. NONE of them started out thinking anything other than "well, let's try for fun, what harm is there in it if I stick to my limit?"

I don't think many of us know people who have changed their lives for the better by gambling.

I really resent the governments promoting this horrible ADDICTION. So many lives are ruined because of it.

I'm not sure about a time limit.

If you're playing Blackjack, then you definitely want to have a money limit. Once you lose that, you're done for the day. Make sure you follow basic strategy religiously. You can print off a little card or buy a plastic one from Amazon. I don't advise deviating from basic strategy unless you really know what you're doing... Which means being an expert... Put it this way... There are very few experts out there on Blackjack who count cards with the ease of blinking...

You can have a lot of fun at blackjack with $500 if the bets are $15 or lower.

As has been said previously, you need to think of the $500 as fun money. Otherwise, it won't be that much fun. I remember times when I was less prosperous and I would lose $500 and that ride back from the casino was the shittiest 50 minutes of the day lol

As you develop experience playing, whether it's blackjack or poker, you will get better at sensing when things have turned bad. For blackjack you need to know when you need to stop playing for the day, and when you got to switch tables because the current one is killing your bankroll...

Winning and losing come in streaks or waves, at least that's the way it feels sometimes.

P.S. Stay away from automatic shuffling machines... Always play at a table where the cards are dealt from a shoe...

Not long ago, I found myself playing the only game I enjoy on a rare occasion (craps) with a couple of friends at Aria.
I looked down at my watch and realized time got away from me, and it was the middle of the night.
Announced to the group I was bailing as I had to be up in a couple of hours for an early meeting.

As I was collecting my belongings the boxperson who was an older gentleman looked over at me and said, "So how did you do tonight?".
I looked down and after a short pause told him that I was not entirely sure but likely not great as it looked like I may be about even.
He winked at me and said in an almost hardened tone, "Son, you're a winner tonight!".

The moment and message have stuck with me.

My first rule is much like spending money on sexy fun (though I prefer the sexy fun): Have a budget and stick to it.

My second rule is: Once I know my budget, every time I double my money I never go below that point. So if my budget is $200, then my 'take the money and run' points are $400, $800, $1,600, etc. I usually burn the budget, but from time to time I escape with some doubling of it.

No regrets fun is the best fun.

If you’re going for fun… which it sounds like you are… then play the cheaper tables and have fun.

I disagree with roulette systems not working because they do… kinda (think Sex Panther from the movie Anchorman… “60% of the time… it works every time” 🤪)

Stay as long as you want but always keep your budget and exit amount in check.
That being said… if you pocket your bank roll… and only play with your winnings, you still come out ahead. So go have fun.

I like the old fishing proverb “never leave fish to find fish”…

or like Geoffrey Talbot said in the Hangover - “You never get up from a heater”

Once I time hit my roulette goal and just played with $100 (I actually exceeded my target by $100 so I used that) because the rolls kept hitting… BUT I got up on the first loss after that.

I say if it’s just for fun and excitement… Craps

At the Blackjack tables the worst bets are the side bets that pay off only for various card combinations. Slot machine odds.

With Craps you gotta know the odds to play it properly. Some bets have even odds.

I'm curious to know what roulette system works. Pray tell. And as the old stock market book was titled "Where Are The Clients' Yachts?", if there is a relatively simple system that works...

Also, in on-line casinos, only play the "live dealer" games. I'm convinced the computer dealer games have far worse odds than the live games.
