Surprisingly, Gutfeld on Fox News outdraws all the late night hosts. I suspect viewers were tired of a steady diet of liberal politics on the three legacy networks. They decided to watch a show that openly espouses conservative politics but also makes them laugh.

I have caught "Gutfeld" a couple times. He and his panelists are pretty funny. He doesn't adhere to the standard format of a celebrity telling some silly, tired anecdote and then proceeding to promote their new project. I do kind of like the silly stuff Jimmy Fallon does with guests though.
More likely is that all the old fucks watching Fox fell asleep with the TV on...

Yeah, going after media for criticizing him is a Nazi thing to do, and it is yet another opportunity for me to mock him and have fun at your expense, while you squirm uncomfortably in your seat while having to put up with a 4th liberal term. lmfao.
So COPE!
I'm not making threads, you are...
Texas flood - this gotta be Trump's work...
Stephen COlbert cancelled - this gotta be Trump's work...
COPE!

I thought Gutfield ended at 11 EST and all the others started almost half an hour after that?
Sorry I got turned around on the time. I guess they moved Gutfeld up an hour in 2023. I don't watch Gutfeld but I think he's a clever and funny commentator.

It's hard to be objective, but I think Gutfeld is more interesting than Kimmel and probably Colbert as well. You have to realize most of Gutfied's show is simply a panel discussion. No A-list celebrities. No silly stunts and man on the street segments.

Fun fact: If Google AI is to be believed, Gutfeld makes half of what Colbert and Kimmel pull in for salary. Now some of that is because Fox News doesn't attract the same mainstream advertisers that CBS and ABC do. It does make you wonder though if Colbert and Kimmel are overpaid.

You probably remember when ABC ran Nightline the news magazine in Kimmel's current slot and did fairly well. I'm not sure with the current overload of news programming that's the formula. It does show that you don't necessarily need an expensive host, a musical band and an army of comedy writers.

Yes, what would you make a thread of anyway?
The diapered Don is an embarrassment and has now been exposed as a kiddy diddler.
Your glorified sloganeer is out of a job.
The Liberals are back in business.
All your right wing dreams have come crashing.
On the other hand I make threads to have fun at your expense, which is very entertaining for me.
So naturally I am the one making threads.
So COPE!

That's kind of like a Colbert joke. Political, mean-spirited and wildly inaccurate.

Gutfeld crushes in the "demo" as they call 25-54 year-olds. So maybe you can say they were fucking while they left Fox on the TV.

My kids are 18 and 16. They never switch the regular TV on. I repeat, they never switch the regular TV on.

Slowly, all of these shows will disappear. We will all falsely blame something else.

TV is dead.
A rare and refreshing moment of objectivity from you.

I don't need to make any thread...nothing to complain about...you seem to have so much to whine about...

Is Conan really that relevant?

I always thought Conan was a terrible and silly interviewer. He commands some great guests because of his legacy network pedigree.

Podcasting is getting very crowded and there will be a big shake out. Of course, if you don't need to make money all you really need is a room with a microphone.

PS- Does anyone know what the chick and the guy that are visible on his podcasts do? They're not adding anything. Are they technical folks or do they write questions, do research?

Relevant to what?
He is one of the last late night greats and his remote segments were always amazing.
I think his interview skills especially with comedians was just perfect. He would set things up perfectly for them to do their bit.
Podcasting is indeed crowded but guys like Conan and Colbert already have an audience that they can leverage.
The chick is Sona Movsesian. She has been Conan's executive assistant since 2009 and now co-hosts his podcast.
Matt Gourley is the guy, who is a producer and co-host of the podcast.

Which, to me, says there is likely room for more variety of approach than what the networks are doing right now.

You probably remember when ABC ran Nightline the news magazine in Kimmel's current slot and did fairly well. I'm not sure with the current overload of news programming that's the formula. It does show that you don't necessarily need an expensive host, a musical band and an army of comedy writers.
Only that format has been consistent for some time and people haven't broken it head to head and done well in the past.
Doesn't mean you can't now.

I think your general observation that the media landscape is so different that late night in the "talk show/monologue/band" format is never going to be the default again is probably correct.

Of course, none of that stops this looking very bad from CBS right now due to the timing.

So you're a fan.
I think Conan's TV talk show ratings were always just ehhh. He couldn't hold Leno's audience when moved up.
He's an acquired taste who in my opinion always had some important people in his corner.

As far as relevant to what? I guess that could be answered with a question. Does Conan's podcast draw an audience when he has a non A-list guest. In contrast, I'm always amazed how Rogan can hold an audience with some fairly less known and sometimes wonky guests.

You just have to accept that Conan is not everyone's cup of tea. I don't think he rates high in the talk show genre. Triumph the Insult Dog were his best segments. So sorry to say that I have to poop on Conan. ;)

I think you could say that about anyone.
My point is relevance really doesn't factor into it.
They are well known, have an audience that likes what they do, so even if the podcast space is crowded, they will find a way.

Perhaps.

However, I generally stick to the idea that relevance is equated with audience. And that would be audience on a sustainable basis not just when you have Woody Harrelson as a guest
.
I'm not just singling out Conan. There are a lot of celebrities entering the talking head space. It's quite amazing actually.
