I want to dispose of some old photo CDs. Is there any gadget that will shred them? Cutting them up is tedious...and the garbage men would have a field day if I just threw them out.
microwave each for 10-20seconds..... it might damage the microwave though unlikely...and it's definetly not recommended....but it does destroy the cd and is fun to watch
this is what i normally do: i usually break CDs into 4 or 8 (depending how many i have to do) after blacking out the surfaces with ink (although i'm liking the sandpaper option). then i place one piece into a separate pile and then dispose one pile a week or per trash bag. this makes reconstituting the data fairly hard at next to no cost.
you could also throw them in the fire but that likely releases some toxic fumes but would be total destruction.
shit. he knows tooo much. must make contact and ask for orders.
but seriously there are fix kits to easily fill in scratches and make them readable so if you have sensitive corporate data you need to take further steps. or even if you have porn you are trying to hide from the missus. there's always a good reason to be paranoid.

Take a blade or something sharp, and scratch the top of the CD, not the bottom. The info is under that layer of film. That is why you should actually protect the top of your CD's more than the bottom. You can always resurface a CD that is scratched on the bottom, but if it's the top, forget it.
