I'm surprised that PSV played Lyon well and managed a key away goal and to tie.

Juve did just enough, got that crucial away goal, and if Del Piero didn't suck and miss two golden opportunities, then they would have won. but i still think they're in the driver's seat heading back to Torino next week. remember the Real Madrid game....

here's hoping that Shevy gets some playing time off the bench tomorrow for Milan....as long as it isn't Pipo Inzaghi....now that he's healthy too, Inter has a shot if he plays...LOL.

I made my picks a month ago, but to recap:

Juve
Lyon
Milan
Chelsea

Enjoy world-class football boys,

Liverpool vs Juventus

Liverpool played amazing in the first half ... they could have scored more goals, but some of the finishing wasn't good. Sweet goal by Luis Garcia !!! Liverpool were pretty much all over Juve during the first 45 minutes. Too bad they couldn't keep the tempo going in the second half .... that gave Juve the opportunity to control the game more, and eventually get the important away goal.

Del Piero sucked as usual ... it's amazing how things have gone better for Juve during these knockout stages when Del Piero has been substituted. When David Trezeguet came in for him during the Madrid match, they scored. Same for today's match ... as soon as Del Piero leaves, they score.

I lost it when Garcia scored....that was such a fascinating/amazing/incredible/insert any adjective/ goal! One of the best I've seen this year.

I hope they win in 8 days, just for the sake of my pick! :p

Inter Darby on TLN

hi folks, you probably already realize this. Maybe someone mentioned this before.

But due to TSN's commitment to the Women's World Hockey Championships, they won't be showing the Milan vs. Inter match until 4:30pm on tape delay. However, if you want to want to see the game live and don't mind that the commentary will be in Italian, The Star says that TLN will be showing the game. Kickoff is at 2:45pm.

Only in Canada do they show womens hockey instead of the most popular sport in the world

hey esco...you have me listed twice...not that I mind, but I thought i'd let you know.

what did everyone think of the games today? can anyone really stop Milan??? especially now that Shevy is back, and he scored too. Pirlo is a thing of beauty, especially on all the set pieces and crosses.

too bad Munich couldn't have held on to that 1-1 tie they had going...even though i picked Chelsea...I hate them. I hope Juve beats them next round. Seriously, will either Lyon or PSV really put up a fight against a team of such class and depth like AC Milan?

Lampart is a beast for Chelsea....great goals.

Can't wait for the Juve - Liverpool game next Wednesday.

Until then,

Both matches were quite entertaining, but I liked the Milan and Inter derby more. In terms of attacking, I found Milan and Inter to be almost even. Dida made two amazing saves from Inter freekicks, but the man who made a difference was definitely Pirlo. Wow, two perfect free-kicks !!! I didn't even see the ball make much contact with Stam's head for the first goal ... it just seemed to roll over his head and into the net.

Martins played well but Stam was all over him because of his size .... Adriano would have caused more problems in his place. To tell you the truth, I can't see anyone causing huge problems for Milan ... okay, maybe Chelsea, but I still think Milan have a great chance of taking it all. Their defense is rock-solid, despite the old guys (they sure were effective in stopping a speedy team like ManU), and upfront, they are very composed also.

I really hope Bayern prove me wrong by ousting Chelsea ... they still have the all important 2-away goals.

I agree Ladies_Man....it certainly looks like a Milan vs. Chelsea finals, but I would not count out Juve just yet, I think they will beat Liverpool either 1-0 or 2-0 at home on Wednesday, and that should set-up a hell of a match against Chelsea. Milan will walk into the finals no problem.

I'd take AC Milan's "old" defense anyday....no matter their age, Maldini, Stam, Nesta....are all still world-class defenders and can match up against the best stikers.

Did anyone catch the Uefa Cup games today? Parma played extremely well considering they rested Gilardino, Morfeo, and Bresciano, three of their top starters because they are still more concerned with relegation in Serie A than the Uefa Cup. But 1-1 in Austria is a great result.

I hope Newcastle makes it too. After that fiasco on the pitch last weekend between Bowyer and Dyer, and what was supposed to be Shearer's final year (not now though) it would still be nice to see them make it to the finals. I'm calling for a Newcastle vs. Parma finals.

But seriously, does anyone really care about Uefa Cup anymore? It seems that it's either Champion's League or nothing type of attitude with the clubs and fans recently.

I agree with you that Juve have the edge, but I wouldn't count Liverpool out yet. Also, I'm keeping my fingers crossed on how far PSV and Lyon will go. There could be some suprises in store for us ... remember last year when Deportivo ousted AC Milan despite losing badly at the San Siro.

The UEFA Cup is there to please the "not so great" teams, kind of like giving them the left-overs. Personally, I don't care about the UEFA Cup. For me, the Champions League is right up there with the World Cup. Sure, it doesn't have the glamour of the World Cup, but it's just as entertaining.

Amen, I agree it looks like Chelsea against Milan but we'll see.
The Milan defense scares the living crap out of me, Stam looks like he'll take your head off, Maldini has class, Nesta is so good and the speed of Cafu is phenomenal.
If it comes down to Chelsea vs Milan I'd have to pick milan because they've been to the final many times while I dont remember the last time Chelsea was in it. But then again chelsea have something called destiny on their side with Mourinho.
Its a tough call

PSV will lul you to sleep with their defense and then score a goal on the counter attack. Thats their game cause they lack any real superstars. v. Bommel and Cocu are ok but not great.
Holding Lyon to 1-1 at home was well done.

As a point of bitterness, that Milan/Inter game was filled with ex-Lazio players and it breaks my soccer heart. Stam, Nesta, Crespo, Vieri, Mihajlovic, Veron, Stankovic, Favalli, Pancaro, and even coach Mancini. I might also be missing someone too, but its too bad they had and still have that financial crisis because they had such a good team when they won! (Serie A). And all those names listed above were sold within the last 3 years, except Vieri.

Oh well, thats the way it goes...

R.I.P. the BiancoCeleste. Lazio forever.

If you add in the fact that we also had the likes of Nedved, Fiore, Corradi, Lopez.....it's sad to remember how good we actually were, and the quality of players that we developed. I don't blame Cragnotti, I just blame the economics of the sport. Now we must pay the price for our few glory years and wait to develope good young players and/or take on has-beens and aging stars.

Lazio won the final Cup Winner's Cup, 2 Coppa Italia's, 1 scudetto, 4 Champion's League berths, 1 Super Cup...all in the past 7 years. Not bad.

Only Couto, Negro, and Peruzzi remain....because nobody wants them...LOL.

Lazio will get back on track.
