This thread has been done before, many times, I know. Why don't people change?

Very interesting article on CBC news about peoples reluctance to go with an internet provider that is not one of the big three.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/internet-services-rates-canada-1.4596554

I am with Netfox, which uses the same infrastructure as Rogers and Cogeco. The service only goes down when the Rogers or Cogeco internet goes down. I have never had a problem and pay almost half the price, unlimited internet. Do yourself a favour, really.

Thank me later.

How does it compare to Comwave in terms of pricing, as they advertise that you get free home internet and a home phone for 6 months?
Anyway, I was thinking of trying their Home Phone / Internet / TV Bundle. Sound like a great deal compared to just a TV VIP package from Rogers for $100.

I am with Teksavvy which is on the Rogers backbone. Wonder if they will soon have better unlimited internet fees?

I read this as well.

I have avoided the big three like a plague. More Canadians need to or else stop complaining. We can’t start to hurt the oligopoly unless there is an exodus to the smaller companies. If we can hurt them at all.

The recent freedommobile cell phone plans started the big one time 8 to 10 gb data plans from the big three.

I'm with Rogers and my internet is $80 a month for 250 Mbps and unlimited bandwidth. Netfox is $70 for 150 Mbps so not a big difference.

Just tested my speeds and I'm actually getting 330 Mbps down and 21 Mbps up--both higher than what I'm paying for.

In 2 years I've had internet problems maybe twice, and both times it was fixed by rebooting my router. I follow TekSavvy on Twitter and they have far more outages than me.

My renewal is coming up so we'll see what Rogers wants to charge me now.

I'm also looking for a less expensive alternative to Rogers. I started a thread on CikTelecom but have received no response.

Compared to what Fido costs for the same 75 Mbps, CikTelecom is no bargain. I am looking to ditch Rogers at the moment, as they don’t give a rats ass for loyal customers like me.

Not sure how good it is, but Primus through Costco seems decently priced. And you don't have to bundle it through a phone or anything..

One option if you do not want to switch to a smaller provider is to complain to your provider that you may switch because there are lower prices out there. They would rather you stay and pay a lower price than to have you go to the smaller provider which they are selling the same service to. Check your bill every 3 months, they may jack up your price and you have to go through the whole thing again.

That does work for some people.

I've tried it and got shot down, so I moved on.

Then a month later, they called me back trying to get me back. As if I'm going to suddenly quit the newly signed up service and re-sign back with the old place. lol

I had Rogers, tried to get a cheaper rate when I told them about an independent and got shot down. Went to an independent provider. Rogers called me soon after, but too late.

Then Rogers had a special promo bundled with TV years later that was better than my current configuration. So I asked the independent to MATCH Roger's speed. I wasn't even asking for a cheaper price. Just bump up my downloading/uploading speed, and they said no. They don't do that. So I went back to Rogers.

Then a week later, someone left a message from their "retention department". Didn't bother calling back. I was already back with Rogers.

It's so easy to flip back and forth between providers, they should all know the good promos out there and how low of a bar to set to determine agreeing, or turning them down. But some reason they don't seem to get it and assume the customer is bullshitting fake deals.

All these independents get their infrastructure from Rogers and Bell anyway. So they know the details everyone is offering.

I have also looked at the COSTCO / Primus plans. Comwave is $20 cheaper when you bundle just the Phone and internet (25-30 MBPS). Now Comwave also gives you the TV Option and if you add the Platinum TV to the bundle, it is around $155 including taxes with Comwave. As Rogers has to be paid separately with the COSTCO / Primus Plan, then it will be around $200. So a saving of $45 with Comwave.
