I am actually so paranoid that I rush to the clinic if I get a pimple.
Good for you. In 2010 when I knew I was not going to survive financially without desperate measures, I did a lot of research on being an escort. Just a bit North of Vegas where it is legal the girls are trained to do 'long arm inspections'. If you are serious you might want to find out about them.

A few simple things to try:

Slide your fingers along the urethra from well below the base to the tip. Be firm. If you get a discharge, it he screams in pain, or even just flinches in pain..... Do not do anything with them. Throw them out and wash your hands.

Check for visible sores or small red rings on the skin. Spots? Out the door.

Check in the nose for cancers and super cold sores. DATY has brought us nasal herpes, and transmission rate with active sores is VERY high.

I talked to a woman who worked at one of the ranches. They get checked weekly, and her guess is 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 men do not get serviced after the girl inspects them.

I never heard of a client being examined let alone being rejected in Toronto. Have you heard of any?

I know a few girls who would get evicted if they stopped working for 6 weeks. I also know that more than a few girls shared tips for working through my period and working through a herpes out break.

I am glad you have high standards, but in all honesty, you have to admit that for every you, there is a girl strung out and who does not give a thought to it. Except to tell her clients she is clean.

Your chart is interesting, but I find it only covers the STIs that were common at the turn of the century.

If it comes back positive for what? Most STI's (everything accept HIV and some strands of hcv I believe) are treatable and can be eliminated after 6 weeks. Sure being broke for 6 + weeks will suck, but at least you have piece of mind that you are not spreading anything to other sp's, wives, girlfriends ect. In addition, STI's such as syphillis can be fatal or cause infertility for women if left un treated.

I get tested for STI's every 3 to 6 months. I am actually so paranoid that I rush to the clinic if I get a pimple. I have been told by health professionals that this is excessive because they see me as being very low risk for most sti's (i am honest with them re my profession).

That said, some sp's might not need to test frequently depending ont he actives they a partake in. Check out this chart outlining specific acts, the risk, and for what sti's.

It can never hurt to get checked either way, but it is always necessary to have all the facts when engaging in sexual acts.
umm do you consider herpes to be an STD?

I have a bet that this thread will be deleted soon for exactly that reason.
Sorry not at this point luv. Just not a good reason to delete. I actually think it's a good idea that people be more aware of what is going on around them. Education is great.

There are two different strands of Herpes and there are many different classifications of Herpes.
Herpes is one of the most common conditions in the world infecting at least 60% of the population (WHO). A few decades ago HSV-1 was typically only found in the face (mouth, nose, and eyes). HSV-2 was typically found in the genital and anal area. Recently HSV-2 is often found in facial outbreaks and HSV-1 is found in genital outbreaks. Most conjecture has been that this is a result of oral-genital contact. Is it serious? In the industrialized nations it is the most common infectious cause of corneal blindness. There is evidence it is linked to several even more serious conditions like Bell’s Palsy and Alzheimer’s.

Why should we care as SPs? Because it is often asymptomatic in the case of HSV-2 in the genital area but any liquid is rich in viral shedding. Guess where the fluid goes during energetic DATY? Unless wearing goggles, that becomes a clear path to the eyes. Are there other ways of eyes being infected? Yes there are including contact with open sores, and even transmission within nerves within a patient. But it is easier to avoid having people with open lesions lick your eyes.

Do any SPs get tested for HSV-2? Well I did when I retired, but I doubt many do on a regular basis. I know it is not done on as part of the standard clinic testing. Do SPs tell their client “I have HSV, if you want DATY go ahead”? Never. Can it be cured? Never. Why get tested for it? Because you love someone and want them to know the risk before you become monogamous.

Was I any more ‘dirty’ than a civilian? Are SPs vectors of disease? Let’s be serious. We are no better and no worse than any other woman who sees a few dozen different men a week. Better than some because most of us insist on condoms. But the clients deserve to know that for most of us, the “I get tested all the time” is just part of the false advertising. And yes I know some do get tested for the more common STIs.

Ok, here is another interesting point. HSV-2 can infect the oral region. But shedding from it only occurs about 1% of the time. Something like 3 to 4 days a year you need to worry about transmitting it. In genital shedding it is contagious closer to 25% of the time.

If you see someone with HSV-2 in his mouth, nose, or eyes, you can pretty well tell where they had them.

... Education is great, but in the long run people should be allowed to make their own choices.
I never knew 60% of the people out there have herpes. I never knew 25% of the time people with genital herpes are contagious. I never knew I could get herpes in my eyes from DATY. How the h*** can I make an informed decision if you call it scare tactics and do not want the information discussed.

...woman hating. Assuming that sp's are desperate and dishonest. Sex workers are very diverse in their needs and motives. However, you can not speak for all sp's nor do you speak for me.
Sounds to me like the kettle calling the pot black. She does not say all you guys are all the same. But you seem to want us to believe that they are all like you.

I personally get checked regularly and I test for everything to be on the safe side.
I have had genital herpes since I was a teenager. It has never been reported + in STI testing. I asked. they do not test for it. And yes I will be asking a lot more questions next time I see my doctor.

. ...Testing is a great way to be safe, and in combination with condoms and education, can mean total safety.
That is just plain silly. Does my yearly blood pressure test make me safe from high blood pressure? total safety? Do you think we are stupid? It is all about managing risk.

I get the impression you are just trying to just shut mrs up because what she is saying is bad for business, or offends your view of the universe,

There are two different strands of Herpes and there are many different classifications of Herpes. It can be sexually transmitted or through sharing a cigerette, glass of water ect. Check it out!
I just wanted to know where the "glass of water" thing comes from. I could not find it in the article.

Good news, once you have the dreaded HSV-2 you cannot catch it or HSV-1 a second time. Your can DATY to your hearts content

Bad news is we cannot cure it.

What I meant....

So what will you do if you test possitive for HIV next time? What are your options? Testing is not a precaution. It is just letting you know you were not lucky.

And of course I lied like crazy to potential clients while working. You have to do it to get clients.
By taking extra precautions means that I am always playing safe and getting checked on a regular basis.

Though this would NEVER" happen to me.......If" I were to ever be tested positive for HIV, I would be quitting the business and start writing out my will. That would just be so sad :'(

Your absolutely right. There is risk and it can be serious. I agree with you about that. I am still concerned however, that your messaging is telling people to be scared to have oral/sex and specifically with sp's. Education is great, but in the long run people should be allowed to make their own choices. In my opinion scare tactics don't work in educating anyone.

In addition, if you are so concerned about the fact that sp's might get evicted if they find out they have something, why are you trying to scare clients away. I find this whorephobic and woman hating. Assuming that sp's are desperate and dishonest. Sex workers are very diverse in their needs and motives. However, you can not speak for all sp's nor do you speak for me.

I personally get checked regularly and I test for everything to be on the safe side. Does this mean I can safely say to a client that I am totally clean all the time? No, actually it does not. Testing is a great way to be safe, and in combination with condoms and education, can mean total safety. However, the reality is that testing only tells you what you have and don't have at the moment. You will need to wait another 3 months to test again, and in the meantime anything can happen. That said, if I did find out I had something I would stop working. That is just me, and I am privileged to be a position to make that decision.
Very well put Amber

Bottom line, you cant assume a partner (sp or civilian) is 100%safe. You need to look after yourself and play within your own risk tolerance. Many people need a bit more education on stds too. The health nurse is an awesome resourse, not only for hobbyists and sps, but anyone who likes sex.

Would you quit if you got HPV-1 or HPV-2 knowing that something like 1/4 of your clients were going to be at risk? Would you tell them?

How about syphilis or gonorrhoea you got from a BBBJ? Would you quit?

Should clients who have HPV-2 stop seeing SPs?

Don't we have a right to believe that the SPs we see are being honest and get tested?
if SP does not get tested she can honestly continue SPing. That is the honesty of being an SP.
If she does get tested and is found to have say herpes, then she has a dilemma on her hands which the SP who did not get tested would not have.

Most of the working Ladies I know personally get testing regularly, every 3 to 6 months. We do this in part because it would be devastating to be the cause of a client taking something contagious home to his SO. We also do it because we care about our own health. I would like to live a long and healthy life and getting tested regularly gives me some peace of mind. Also, for those of us that are supporting a family, we would be out of business very quickly if we were the cause of an sti and being out of business means a lot of people who are depending on us would go hungry.
I personally go running to get swabbed and checked every time I have a sore throat for crying out loud lol. I have had the talk with Dr.s so many times they are probably sick of repeating themselves but I still insist on them being thorough each and every time. We do it for you, for ourselves and for our families.

I was about to start a thread about this topic...and voila, here it is already.

I get tested every three months. I asked my doctor if I should get tested every month and he said it takes three months for something to show up. I just got my results back yesterday....I'm clean. I am nervous every time I go. But the peace of mind is huge every time I get my results.

I was going to ask you guys if it would make you feel more comfortable to see an sp's current test results. Cover the personal info of course. I do get about 20% of my potential clients asking me if I am clean. I kinda think it's a dumb question because do they expect me to say...no, I have an sti? Obviously not! But it's not a dumb question if I can back it up. I had a client once pay me double for my service because I was willing to show him my current text results. Would advertising that I have current negative test results and am willing to show them make people more comfortable or creep them out?

To be brutally honest, I would appreciate the fact that you're willing to show me results, which is more than 98% of SPs out there. If I was totally naive, I would love it. And the fact, especially if I never asked for your results, and you showed me them, I would take it more than you're telling the truth, than you're lying. However, I could never know whether you have exposed to a STD since you've had the test, and I would know that certain STIs (of which, the only major one I'm concerned with are the herp and the HPV) do not necessarily show up in a standard STI test. I would assume that you, as a SP, would know this, and would have a herpes-specific test, but that's a) a big assumption on my part and b) some herp-specific tests can be falsely positive or negative. I don't necessarily think it would creep me out, and it would make me feel better as compared to no test, but it wouldn't completely change my risk assessment of a potential SP. Also how would I know for sure that you were the one who took the test?

Your right, those two tests are not standard in testing. And the testing for them is not as definite as the others. And yes, the results could be someone elses....but unlikely. The sp would have to go pretty far out of her way to get someone elses results. The one client who asked to see my results asked to see my drivers license too. I covered my name, but showed him my picture and birth date, then backed it up with the birth date on the test results. There are ways to share the info and still maintain your anonymity. Even though it does not mean you are still 100% safe, I think a girl who is willing to show a current clean bill of health is much more trustworthy. Not always as there are some who will go far to deceive, but I think it would be a very small percentage.

Fair enough. There's no such thing as 100% certainty, from a SP or from a client, but if you did what you say, I would feel much better than otherwise. Not many girls would have do what you say, much less would take the additional time to fake STD tests
