Charlie Trotter's in Lincoln Park if you can get a res. Twin Anchors also but much lower scale. Former hang out of Sinatra. Informal. no reservations, great ribs-- also in lower Lincoln Park just a short walk fro Michigan Ave.

Walk through the Gold Coast and see how the "other half" lives.

Don't forget new Millenium Park, Field Museum and the Art Institute. Also Oak Park for Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.

Enjoy

For lunch: Giordanos - best stuffed crust pizza ever. Right under the L. there are two, just wander around you will find them.

for culture, the aquarium is amazing. they just redid it a couple of years ago.

up on michigan mile is a place called the cheesecake factory. they have over 75 types of cheesecake. I was in heaven :)

Millennium Park is nice. That Frank Gehry bandshell is nice. Also check out the metal blob that is there, along with the two video screen thing along just off Michigan St. before the entrance to the park.

Some consider Pizza Uno up there with Giordanos. Eat-in if you can. I had craving late 1 night, ended up with a soggy deep dish delivered.

Must try Cheesecake Fac - basement of John Hancock. Love their bowlsize cafe au lait and non cheesecake sweets. Breakfast are huge with large milkshakes.

Chicago franks is worth a try but not time of season.

For lunch, must try PotBelly sandwich shop on N.Linclon. Great food and the price can't beat.

For Steak, Harry Caray's (busy), Weber's Grill (great burgers).

House of Blues at Dearborn for catfish, Gumbo and Jambalaya with livebands.

For Seafood, Catch 35 and its sister restaurant for lobsters.

For Asian, Penny's noodle shop but nothing special compare to T.O. Asian selection.

Then specilty ice cream at River North & Boutique shopping.

Bring credits cards! Mich ave, aka Magnificent Mile with Bloomingdales, Gucci, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Saks, A/X, Ann Taylor. Shopper's paradise w/ many midwest cutties.

American Girl's place is neat for young girls, across from Water Tower.

Take a free or minimum charge walking guided tour www.architecture.org , starts from Chicago Cultural Center at Wabash & Michigan (S of Chicago River). Checkout the giftshop, for unique gifts.

Art Mus www.artic.edu has an impressive collection.

If you have time, buy CTA day pass, www.transitchicago.com take purple line around 'the loop' for elevated tracks. In summer time, special narrated trains and bus #130 Grant Park Treasures & #19 Stadium express loop around Field Mus, Sears tower, Navy Pier, Soldier field, etc.

Ditto what Goodtime wrote.

Also go to the top of the John Hancock Center. There's a cafe/lounge and breathtaking view of the city.

If you're into interesting areas, check out Devon Street for some great Middle Eastern/Indian/Pakastani fare. Chinatown is on Chermak Street in south Chicago. The area around Wrigley Stadium has a ton of bars and restauarants.

One of my favourite restaurants is Red Light on Randolph street.

Have fun.
