Ya,...have had that problem also, that's why I try to attract crows, but not easy.

My bird feeder is up high, has some protection, but the birds get picky, and push some of the seeds on the ground, and that puts the small birds in harms way.

If anybody knows what will help, would really be appreciated.

I have a scare crow left over from Halloween, but I think they are smart enough to eventually catch on.

It really helps to have shrubs or a dwarf conifers near the feeders to provide safety for the passerines.

I'm The Wasp Terminator, every cluster I find on my property I put to the torch. I disorient the queens with cigarette smoke and squash them under foot. Wasps destroy beehives, you can understand my evangelical zeal.

Every other critter is welcome, although Blue Jays make a hell of a racket. Cardinals are particularly welcome, they sing to me while I have my morning coffee.

My favorite bird, not just The Big Kahuna below. I've never seen a racoon anywhere near my property, they tend to stay away from areas with owls. However there is a skunk that went about his business in the warmer months. Since I get him early, I had to be very quiet going outside. Didn't want to startle him - that would be unpleasant.

Noisy but more beneficial than I thought, if you have a garden you want these boisterous critters about. I do know that they deter house cats from killing nesting chicks. Don't kid yourself, house cats have the same guile as a tiger in a much smaller package. They seem to hunt for sport.

Reminds me of a cute feisty lil squirrel that would do a 90' vertical climb up to the 19th floor of my building, jump-up on my balcony, walk throw the glass-sliding doors, right past the dining-room, literally would be waiting for me in the kitchen every morning!

Lil guy would gobble-up all kinds of good eats . . . . . roasted peanuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds etc.

This about 17 - 18 yrs ago, thinking about him as I'm writing this, my eyes are becoming glossy, tears may fall . . . . . I miss my lil furry lil friend

Something about animals, soil & sun, the Universe, God that are spiritually connected and have such a special POWER over us!

I've always wondered why. Maybe . . . . . . child-like innocence, purity, truth

Whatever it is, it's a beautiful thing . . . . .
