York police say they've arrested more than 100 men for purchasing prostituted children.

In a press release on Thursday, police said they have completed a multi-year operation that resulted in a large number of arrests.

Most of the arrests took place in York Region but the men who were arrested came from across the GTA and outside of Ontario, police said.

Police declined to provide further details, saying more would be revealed at a Friday morning news conference.

Const. Andy Pattenden credited investigators for their work on the investigation.

"It's what they do and they're passionate about it. The team in our vice unit is second to none and they've been recognized for their efforts. It's the work that they do and it's challenging work and you're going to see some of the results of that work tomorrow," said Pattenden

The project was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, police said.

It's a shame to know that this happened, as most of us probably try not to think that this actually happens here, or even in this area.

Praise goes to the boys and girls in blue who investigated this and charged all of these assholes.

At a SP near me
It is sickening to hear this sort of thing happens here. Glad the police were able to catch those motherfuckers. Put them in general population and let justice be served.

Here
When you think that these kids will have to live with the memory of this shit for the rest of their lives its just sickens me. I hope they roast these guys and put the traffickers in a deep dark hole for the rest of their lives

Expect when the police find children being prostituted they would act immediately, not investigate for multiple years. Does not seem to make sense.
My immediate thoughts too. I can't believe that a heartless asshole would know a child is being molested and let it continue as they used her as bait. I hope it was a sting operation where they get an acknowledgement from the suspect that he is paying for sex with a minor.

It is obvious to me that the police said they arrested 100 men for purchasing prostituted children. No indication that the cops left children out to be sold so they could build their case. In fact, YRP is well known for their sting operations where they advertise a decoy and when guys respond the "girl" confesses she is really 16. If the guy continues the conversation, sets up a meeting or shows up, then he is arrested for the crimes of communicating, procuring etc etc with someone underage.

So, if you want to stay safe from this sting and believe you are vulnerable to be tempted to go ahead to see a 16 year old being prostituted, then I suggest that you just go and take your own life and reduce the risk to society.

I also understand that YRP impersonates clients and sets up appointments with girls. When they arrive they identify themselves as the police and tell the girl she is not in trouble, but that they are just checking up on her for safety and in case she needs help. I understand they also give the girl information on how to look for help if she feels she wants to get out or is being controlled etc.

I commend them for both.

I also understand that YRP sometimes likes to stop and question guys/clients/johns they suspect are going to or have seen girls in the Markham area hotels. Sometimes under the ruse of a traffic stop.

Maybe Carmya S'ad the new sex law / civil rights lawyer here can advise on what do say or not to say if you get stopped.

I just avoid that area outright. Too many asian operations that I feel have a very high ratio of trafficked, vulnerable FOB's and too much heat/risk of being questioned and my identity being recorded and any notes the cops might put into my CPIC or YRP field notes/internal files. I understand such notes that document your interractions with police are accessible to other law enforcement, including US Customs.

Just listening to the press conference now. As expected there was no child prostitution ring busted, all they did was put up a bunch of fake ads and then tell the guy that they are communicating with someone under age.

As expected, SkyRider (aka TERB's Frankie MacDonald) breathlessly yelps his usual hyperbole!

Sounds like a good use of police time to me. Seriously, if these guys were hearing that they were booking an underage girl and showing up they deserve what they got.

Much better than if there actually was a child involved. The big fear people should have is booking an adult SP and then getting arrested because the agency has some other underage girl working and the police raid the place and take down everyone whether or not they knew.

After listening to some of the press conference, YRP reported they also arrested some 6 local Toronto gang members (including 2 females) who were trafficking/pimping. I don't recall if these pimps were trafficking underage girls but in any case, good work by YRP!

Two falls ago I posted about one of The YRP raids where they did something the same.

I "loosely" knew one of the dudes that got caught.

I have mixed emotions on this.

On one hand, it demonstrates how low some guys will sink.

On the other hand, this is a clear cut case of entrapment. A lot would depend on how the cops set this up. For example, did they advertise this as a clearly underage set up in the first place and the men knew full well what was being offered, or did they get the guys all worked up and then reveal a definite age.

There's a lot of questions.

York Region has always come down extremely hard on the sex trade and this is just another example.

That said, any guy who hears an age under 18 and doesn't immediately extricate himself from the circumstances, deserves what he gets.

Agree with JTK above this. In addition:

According to Detective Sergeant Thai Truong this was a sting operation, when they were contacted by men they made clear that the people they were supposedly communicating with were children. He also stated that most men when they found out they were dealing with someone under 18 broke off contact and that no effort was made to identify them. The 104 arrested where those who went ahead.
