A relatively small population trying to defend a very large land mass. Russia or China could bite off pieces of Canada with relative ease. I think most sensible people know what prevents that from happening.

I saw the recent hearing where they had on the NORAD chiefs. He was asked directly about the state of it and his reply was there is not a single person from both countries who is not completely dedicated to its continuance. That it is intricately a part of USA defense and nothing will shake that.

Lots of rhetoric but in the end the cooler heads will prevail. Our military alliance is not going anywhere.

Thats a loong time ago, yes China has strong borders, there have been centauries of invasions of China, if your country bordered on North Korea, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam. would you not have heavily defended borders? Taiwan will be allowed to develop on its own if it does not declare independence.

Calling Canada it's 51st state undermines Canadian sovereignty.
Putting tariffs on Canada when 75% of our exports go to the US is economic warfare which is an attack on Canada itself.
It is an existential threat.
All of which was unjustified and unnecessary.
So yes the US is no longer a reliable ally.
So we should treat them like we treat China and more importantly we should stop putting all our eggs in one basket.

America is basically north korea with more money and a more refined censorship/security apparatus. The economic carrots that China has been wielding are diminishing due to a variety of factors and they will be using the military sticks they have been building for the last 8.5 decades.

The One China Policy is exactly the reason you don’t want China dictating world terms. They have compromised world organizations to shut out Taiwan, even though Taiwan is already a de facto country. Actually, UN Resolution 2758 only acknowledges Beijing’s claim but says nothing about agreeing with it. Also, from what I’ve read and heard, CKS was a tyrant and committed many atrocities amongst the Taiwanese people. He was an illegitimate government, much like the CCP.

As for a blockade, that is an act of war. Given Taiwan’s importance to the global economy, global technology and its strategic point within the first island chain, you don’t think Pacific allies will step in. Plus, the CCP will lose a lot of political face by trying to strangle an independent country. All those ships trying to blockade Taiwan will be sitting at the bottom of the Pacific.

Also, I’m still having quite a chuckle at someone who thinks secret police stations are there just to help with driver’s license. How gullible lol.

Yet you can't even ALLEGE what they are there for. Taiwan is part of China, a large segment of the Taiwanese population accepts this. If Taiwan were to truly seek independence, I think China would accept it, but to become a US client state, not likely.

They do need to take our manufactured goods. We can work with them to become part of their supply chain to manufacture cars for domestic and regional markets. Bottom line is they are the most advanced manufacturer. We can also sell them commodities.

You need to follow objective news more. Europe is trying to fend off a tidal wave of Chinese manufactured goods. Canada doesn't have any special manufacturing prowess that Western Europe doesn't have.

Pardon me for harshly criticizing your posts. They seem flippant. Hey I know, we will get embed ourselves into the Chinese supply chain and supply them some of their manufacturing components. How do you think the Chinese treat Intellectual Property? The Chinese might even consider Canadian assembly so they can gain a backdoor into the U.S.market.

How does your math work? They cross one ocean. They only try to secure energy and commodity regions. They wouldn't bother with the East.

Once Canada tightens its US border and pays its fair share of NATO expenses, the tariffs will go away. They're a pressure tactic. Asking a teenager nicely to take his feet off the seat in front of him in at a movie theater usually gets some guff in return. Whacking his ankles with your flashlight usually gets immediate compliance.

That is a lie.
There is no expenses that NATO countries are required to pay.
It is merely a commitment to spend on defence.
But what is fair is relative and the US's criticisms are not valid.
The US is the primary beneficiary of NATO activities.
They chose to create a military that was bigger than what they need for their national defence.
They chose to create over 750 military bases the world over.
It was their choice to do so because they wanted the military, political and economic clout.
So they have to pay for it by carrying NATO on their shoulders.
But I do agree that Canada has to spend on its defence chiefly to defend itself from threats the US poses.

I tapped on the window of a police car parked in front of the Hard Rock Cafe, and told the cop who rolled the window down an inch about it. He rolled the window up, and went back to working on his Sudoku puzzle.

Junky deaths aren't newsworthy, on an individual basis. A coyote snatching a little dog is more interesting to the affluent viewers who rarely leave their homes after sunset.
