Ya their coming after you next!

sorry

I doubt it
Of course I wasn't concerned about ME :p But you gotta figure, this is a big stink in local news. You'd think that perhaps with enough people flipping out over an establishment like this opening up that it might cause people to think along the lines of "Hey, what about the one 2 blocks from MY house?" and then pressure their counsel member to do something about it.

Who knows. I just tend to think the less noteworthy these places are, the better.

Did you read the news article? It stated "“We were led to believe they are opening a wellness centre." (statement from the landlord) - Interpret as you may but this speaks to the commercial application was completed with false information.

This I'm sure is what Kitwat is referring to. I feel your pain as I was looking forward to the talent a private club might bring to the local MP scene but you are really taking this turn of events a bit personally.

Just wanted to share what most of us were understanding from the news article.

Cheers
No I don't care they didn't make it. I wasn't planning on going or joining. I don't like seeing people impose there will on people who have done nothing wrong....yet. Assuming they will do wrong isn't good enough for me. As I stated...everyone seems to have forgotten that they broke NO laws. NONE......NONE
Should we bust you for what we think your gonna do?
Fuck if people don't get this obvious breech of common sense then don't complain when your activities are next. This is what I take personally. Them blowing it through dumb mistakes isn't of any concern to me.
Yes your correct on the wellness aspect. I can see after they made the web site and described the format, it would have the landlord/renter nervous. Complaints from other tenants is reason to break it as well and I see that too. I see why everyone wouldn't want it there, but stand on the fact that they were law abiding as far as the city and Commandant Zehr was concerned when they decided to shut em down. Fuck they never even opened yet and he had doing crime already. I wonder what crime he will envision next..stay tuned for his next dream.
Sure we can all read between the lines as the dictator Zehr did. But why isn't he after the MP's then? Maybe he wasn't offered a free membership and got hissy.

Yes agreed

Publicity can't make running these businesses any easier.

It's irrelevant to bitch about the politicians. Club 121 was doomed from the moment the operators set their eyes on the building.

Sure it looks hip, cool, upscale to someone from Ottawa or Toronto scoping out a location for a private club. But The Tannery is an office complex with a special high tech mandate supported by federal, provincial and, yes, civic funds (as the first news story noted):

This business was allowed into a complex that’s home to hundreds of technology companies — big and small.
The development was given millions in taxpayers’ money to get established. Based largely on the success of the high-tech centre, the city’s economic development strategy calls for turning the west end of downtown Kitchener into “Innovation City” — the best place in the country for startups and established technology firms.
The owner of a small technology company in the building saw Club121 setting up shop and complained to Etherington about a week ago.

So the inevitable happened even before they opened their doors. City council had no choice but to get involved. I cannot fault either the mayor or councillor in this matter.

Had Club 121 opted for a more appropriate/discreet location, they might be quietly enjoying a successful start right now.

Oh I get it now.....it's a building filled will special people

Yes if some jizz were to slide out under the door and run down the hall, it may go under the door of a special business and contaminate the princess.
Thank God they have you and the mayor to protect them.

Maybe the mayor should wear a cape

The Club 121 ownership had their heads up their arses if they thought they could successfully open up a "hostess lounge" in a high profile new building like the Tannery. They would have been better of following the Aloha Spa model from a few years ago with a few tweaks... Open up shop in a non descript low traffic business plaza, a website with less info, the sign on the store front is something else, etc, etc.

Opening up in Etherington's ward wasn't a smart move. The guy was a Record editor for years and knows pretty much everyone that has influence in Waterloo Region. He's also a socialist and firmly believes in government involvement and regulation of people's daily lives. Now get out the popcorn and wait for what by-laws get proposed to eliminate other mp's that use the Wellness Centre banner.

You seem to have tremendous emotional investment in this issue. Do you also have financial investment? Is that what's clouding your vision?

You keep bashing out some sort of libertarian/anti-government theme, blaring it in red letters in some cases. Acting angry, one might even say, like someone suffering financial pain and arguing a lost cause.

This story is not about whether Club 121 deserved a chance to establish a private club which many members here might appreciate. And it's not about being deprived because they couldn't get established.

This is about entrepreneurs not researching their location properly. They were clearly foolish if they figured any hint of terb's favorite industry could successfully fit in with the existing infrastructure at The Tannery.

This is about somebody trying to set up a "hostess club" in a building that is under microscopic attention by civic officials, business leaders, and news media. It's near City Hall and it's right out the window from the radio talk jock who's looking to stir up listeners every morning. Plus the complex has major public dollars invested in it, which means public accountability.

Simply not a good location. Way too indiscreet. Doomed to a bad end before it even began.

Might have helped to know the natives.

Apparently I'm clairvoyant. I predicted this place wouldn't last a week before their problems became known.
