The best way to get to the CNE is to bike there. That'll burn the calories of the fried junk they're selling.

On the road with Willy
As a kid it was something to look forward to.
Growing up on the farm we had to schedule it in between pickings of fruit. Hoping to find a day off to get away.
Then we took the Grey Hound to the Big Smoke for the day.
At that time the international building was full of stuff from around the world. Last time I was there, about 10 years ago, it was half empty and Asians ran all the booths. Really genuine English stuff made in China sold by an East Indian?
The food building was a joke. Every fourth booth was the same stuff and NO free samples. As kids that is what we counted on to stretch our meager allowances.
Where was the "Doggy, Doggy" guy?
No roller coaster?
CNE stadium. I can't remember how many shows I saw there. Used to have to leave early because the last bus left at 11pm.
The midway was just a poor shadow of itself.
The agricultural section, there was almost nothing to see last time I went.
I met a TO friend there last time so we caught up a bit but he had to get his kids back and left around 7pm.
I went to the Casino on the grounds. Oh what the heck I had a hundred or more burning a hole in my pocket so I went in.
No luck there either. Only game going was blackjack at $500-1000 a hand. I wonder where the Asian guys were getting the money. I watched one guy lose about 10 grand in less than 20 minutes.
I went outside and had a $7 plus tip beer until it was time for my bus to leave.
Never again.

I went the first Saturday, because I had Blue Rodeo tickets...Unfortunately, I got to the park just as the soccer game let out and it was wall to wall people.... but I did get a solid reminder of why I stopped going years ago.. prices way to high, crowds too big, and the smell of the park after the concert on return walk through almost made me sick. I saw people standing in line for rides, and pulled pork that had to be 45 min or more....but the sounds and lights at night did bring back some good old memories. ....ah....Denise......lol

Stopped going years ago We really enjoy the Erie County Fair in Hamburg NY close to Buffalo. Great typical American Fair.Bands Parade Great food as well. We sat down to a turkey dinner this year $6.95! Much better than the Grand Old Lady the Ex "used" to be.

The Ex is only for new canadians now. Half those refugees you see on TV will be on the midway next year. Lol

I still go every year, although it is certainly not the value it used to be. It's pretty much just a big flea market now, that you have to pay an arm and a leg to park and enter. But I have a kid and it's part of her summer before going back to school. And usually one of the concerts is enough incentive to go--this year is no exception.
Taking the GO train is the best way to get there.

+1,thats what I did. Went their on Sunday for the airshow. The snowbirds were great as usual. Love the sounds of the fighter jets when the afterburners come on.But yeah, other than that,no real reason to go.

The bike racks in front of Princes Gate were packed full of bikes. Note: Something need to be done about all those Uber cars parked in the bike lane.So ends another year for the CNE. Nobody got hurt, wounded or killed.

Just 1 observation from the CNE.
I noticed there were no bag checks when entering. I figured in this day and age that inspection of bags coming in would be checked. You were allowed to bring in your own food and drink also, which surprised me.

It is surprises me that they can pack the CNE with so many people when they do the same thing every year

Same air show, same ice show , same dog show, same mediocrity of performers, same everything

As long as they come the CNE has no incentive to change the banality of sameness

One trick is to gamble for three hours in their casino then get free parking and passes for the rest of the CNE that year and also forever

I wouldn't say that. There's some new stuff every year. And, I'm sure the "sameness" is comforting to a degree. At least for me, it's a matter of tradition. I wouldn't want it to be all new/different every year. Plus, as I age, different parts of the CNE appeal to me.

Good point, but then again, look at the concessions. No shortage of willing buyers despite the bring your own policy.

I actually like the fact that it stays the same. Maybe I'm weird but my routine in the last few years has been Food Building, look around in the buildings, rides, superdog show, maybe watch some music, corn on the cob, then games and shopping at the end so you don't have to carry everything around with you all day. That's my routine.

Yeah, I'm pretty boring. LOL

Went to CNE week before last. It was fun if you like to try food that is really bad for you. The amusement games were fun too. Best way is to take the Go train.

I had to try the deep friend mars bars. Not as good as i thought but still pretty damn good.
