I had to travel to Ottawa last week for a short visit, and instead of staying in a Hotel I took up a generous offer from my brother and stayed at his house. He left for work at 6am, and his phone started ringing at 7am from the same Collection Agency. I always thought they couldnt call before 8am or after 9pm. Am I wrong or did the rules change.

Here
They are not suppose to call before or after a certan time not sure if its 8 or 9 however. What I sujest is your brother call consumer and corporate affairs and find out. If the collection agency is harassing him the he can make a complaint. Collection agencies will break the rules untill they are told to stop. Just as a side note if your brother is having credit problems maybe he should talk to a credit councilor and get some advice.

Thanx for the advice, I told him to call them. And he doesnt have credit problems, just going thru a messy divorce and they are arguing over who owes what bills. His lawyer told him not to pay anything, because if he does it will be harder for him to get it back from her.

He can communicate with them through written letters if he chooses.
I did that. My ex had a collection agency calling me for apparent money that I owed her...silly stuff like changing the locks at our PO box because "She didn't trust that I didn't have a copy of the keys and would tamper with her business mail. Yes, she kept the PO box which I agreed that she could have without hesitation.
Collection agency couldn't produce any receipts or documents to show that the locks were changed , or that I agreed to changing the locks. She took it upon herself to do this and other silly expenditures . I told him to stop calling me, that any communication is from now on to come by mail, with supporting documents to substantiate the claims. Never heard another word from them ...

I can't possibly be the only one that thought... hmmm, your "brother" eh?

Isn't that a lil too much like asking for advice for a "friend"? :p

I use to work collections up until recently. If you have any questions you can PM me.

Cease and desist letters will get them to stop calling, google it.

Don't you have to say that "the matter is in dispute too"?
