Computer / DVD Remote Question

About 90% of the TV watching I do is basically just watching DVDs - either full season series or movies. I don't have time to follow things week by week and this is more effective for me.

Anyway, I would like to link one of my computers into the TV and use the DVD player inside the computer as my TV dvd player.
The only thing that stops me is that I like to have a remote so that I can freeze the screen to get something out of the kitchen or answer the phone or whatever and plus I sometimes want to scroll back 30 seconds so I can replay a scene.
But, the only way linking a computer into my tv works for me is if I have a remote.

So, does anyone know if it's possible to get a DVD remote for a computer dvd player.
I've done internet searches and I can't find anything.

TV stations, internet, computers and DVD's seem to be getting more and more integrated over the years; so, I'm just wondering if anyone has invented a remote for PC DVD, - linked into a TV . I've got a feeling that eventually a lot of TV 's are going to have computers sitting next to them.

Anyway, thanks for any info about what might be out there now re. remotes if anything.

The DVD rom in your PC/Lapop does not allow for a remote control. I used to watch tv on my computer and used my remote control to control my dvds. Look into the ATI tv wonder as a possible solution. Let me know if you need clarification.

I used to have an ATI Remote Wonder which worked well for this. You might need to reprogram buttons for whatever DVD player application you use, but it's easy. This was a few years ago, but there must be others out there.

I wonder if it works like a regular DVD remote.

Also, thanks for the idea of just using a mouse Asn. That idea never occured to me; but, yea, I could be 10 feet away and just use a mouse to scroll.

Just thought overall that since you get a dvd remote for Xbox and Sony playstation and these hook into your tv; then, why don't they also make a maintream DVD remote for computers that are linked into a TV for people who want to watch DVDs from PC patched into their TV.

I have a media centre PC with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I can't get 10 ft from it but am looking into something else (maybe the one suggested here).

I use the keyboard to pause, ff rewind, skip etc. just like a big ol remote.

When I'm not using it it slips under my coffee table....not as small as a remote but for 20 bucks, it was worth it.

(holy shit those gyration mice are a little pricey....damn).

Many of the "Media Centre" edition Windows PCs include a remote control which functions much like a TV remote (even pausing and rewinding live TV). I haven't used them for playing DVDs, though, so I can't vouch for what features they'll offer.

You can get Remote Control functionality on Linux using something called "LIRC" (Linux Infra-red Control) and a compatible receiver.

You can look into the "Hauppauge" line of Personal Video Recorder (PVR) cards for your Windows computer, and compare features.

Sure, as long as set it up right. I used it with VLC player and had it working just like a real DVD player, with onscreen display when changing volume and everything.

I just bought a philips player that has a usb port. This way I just load a movie on to a usb flash pen and play that on the dvdplyer. Sometimes I just plug in the usb port of the dvd a hardrive and just scroll up and down what I want to watch .

I wonder if you plugged a mouse or keyboard into the USB would it allow you to control the dvd player?

Or for that matter if you connected your PC to the USB could you control the pc?
