Computer help needed

I just moved to Toronto, Danforth and Coxwell, and I can't get my computer to fire up my internet connection. I am looking for a computer repair shop in the east end, that is honest, knowledgable, and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for repairs. I would also like to buy a used 16" monitor, perhaps from the same place. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Ok. So here is what you do..

Before running out and wasting your money on a tech, try the following

1. Make sure that our internet provider has activated your account, its not unsual for the hardware to be in place and the service not turned on.

2. Read the installation instructions and follow them

3. You should buy at least a 17" used monitor. they are around 75.00 each

If your internet provider is a Rogers or a Bell, the guy who came to install your service should have made sure everything worked. Call them and speak to a tech dude. They can test the connection remotely. If they can't sort it out over the phone, ask them to send the guy back over. If the problem is your computer - if its too old or outdated - try PCUSED. They've got good deals.

Try and ping your localhost which is your nic and see if it is working .... run the cmd line and ipconfig and release and renew your ip it could be the problem too.
As far as cheap computer shops there are a bunch on the Danforth within walking distance that are pretty reliable and not to expensive.

I had a good experience with The Worlds Cheapest Computer Warehouse on the Danforth just west of Victoria Park. I found them to be straightforward and honest.

There are a few things you can verify before going to a repair shop:

1.) If you have a dial-up connection, make sure the number you are dialing to is correct. Sometimes when people move to a different area code, the previous number may have problems connecting.

2.) If you have a DSL connection, your ISP may have to reconnect your internet at the new location.

3.) Call your ISP Technical Support and have them troubleshoot the problem.
