Where do you all buy computer parts?

I used to buy it from Infonec for 8 years but last week when I tried to return a motherboard, I was given run around. Fix that and try this and made me assemble/disassemble few times and finally, Oh! the pin is broken, We cannot take it back.

Tiger Direct is bit expensive, anyone has experience with Canada computers or any other place? Thanks.

As a rule Canada Computers out of the Pacific Mall location is the best. At least Canada Computers stands behind what they sell and warranty and service their sales. I have had two problems with complete systems I bought from them in the last 5 years and in each case not only were the issues fixed but they upgraded the failed part to the current configuration, ie: a 400w PS was replaced with a 500w and a DVD5 W was replaced with a DVD9 W. (note that was the Mississauga location).

Tiger Direct isn't necessarily more expensive but I do find they will attempt to screw you on some items whereas CC is always low price. Ie: I was searching for an Archos and Tiger Direct was $490 for the 5 inch system and I was able to get the 7 inch for $550 at Best Buy.. who were selling the 5 inch for $399. I was lucky I was going to buy the 5 inch but their inventory system is so fucked that they couldn't find it so I went to Best Buy.

However if you can afford the time to go to the Pacific Mall then go there. That is the best CC store out there simply due to competition.

Not to mention lots of Asian girls who love to dress sexy... and one of the best Sushi bars in the city.

I have black listed Tiger Direct because of their return policy. They charge a 15% restocking fee.

These are a few:

Best Buy
Futureshop
Tiger Direct
Canada Computers
Grey Tech

Google map search brings up a lot I never been to:

Factory Direct.ca and Cdn Computer does have the 15% restock fee. i bought a AGP Geforce Video card from CC...worked that evening and my slot failed next morning. so i returned/ exchanged for a PCI video card...CC tested but still took 15% for me exchanging/returning.

I never use Best Buy or Futureshop for computer parts (unless it's boxing day!). You'll overpay every time and the staff don't really know what the fuck they're talking about. The big box stores are for joe consumer who doesn't really know what he's doing.

I used to buy everything from Logic Computer House but since they've gone under I've been buying from Canada Computers. No complaints yet.

I've looked at Tiger Direct but I wouldn't buy from them online and everytime I'm looking for something I can get it either cheaper or for the same price from Canada Computers.

Depending on their size and the component being returned and whether the component is open or not, they are all the same.

The Best Buys and such all have a somewhat liberal return policy. The smaller component shops either charge for restocking or refer you to the manufacturer, especially for motherboards. Tiger Direct adds additional difficulties by forcing you to mail back the item.

My advice to others have been.. if you are unsure what the problem is and need to buy components (to test), go to big box stores. If you are trying to save money, go to component stores.

If you want both? Let me know if you ever find this wonderful utopia and I'll follow.

I use NCIX.com -- they always have amazing sales on.

Usually they have a special item that will qualify you for free shipping (if you're placing a bigger order). They ship from BC and don't charge you PST on purchases, which was very nice when I bought a couple systems from them.

Their invoices always have the links as well to any mail-in rebates offered by the manufacturers at that time.
