Computer Question ?

I am appealing to the good nature of all the techies on this board for some advice.

I have recently experienced a slowdown on my computer. It is almost like a delay time. I click the mouse and nothing happens for a few seconds then it will do the function I want, but it seems to have become very slow, I mean noticably slower than it was. Every once in awhile it works fine, but mostly slow now.

I've checked for viruses, etc etc and it's clean. It's not the best computer in the world (AMD 1.3 GHZ, w/98 M Ram), as a matter of fact I've been hoping to replace it with a laptop for some time, but am still wondering which one to go for etc. For now though, I was wondeing if there is any way of speeding up this one. It was much faster, that's waht I don't understand.

Any idea's ???

Dude - that's the easiest computer troubleshooting problem in the world - its *drum rolling* SPYWARE....apparently you've been downloading alot - and in each of these downloaded files - they add spyware files on these downloaded files - so it eventually invades and consumes your computer's memory capacity...by running secret little programs in the background - even without your knowledge - simple - run a spyware scan - after u run a virus scan - and it shoulddetect and clean off all these little programs to free your computer's memory again

Thanks, but already ran spyware programs and the unit is clean. No Virus, no spyware at all.

That's why I'm asking, because it seems strange.

I'd be interested in the feedback on this problem as I have the same one, with one difference. My problem is intermittent - some days I have my usual speed, and some days I don't. A reboot usually seems to clear it up. And I also run spyware checkers, both Search & Destroy and AdAware daily. (and keep their definition files updated weekly)

Had a similar problem.Was using Adaware and Spybot.Purchased a program called Spyware Doctor.(29.95 US).Could not believe how much crap it found and cleaned out.System is much faster now and problem free

I found WebRoot's SpySweeper to be very effective at removing spyware not detected by Adware and SpyBot. It can be very slow to remove spyware traces the first time you sweep your system, but it also includes programs to prevent future problems.

There is also the new player in the Spyware removal game...Microsoft! Since they created the problem they should be very good at removing and preventing spyware.
