Holy shit, I have a newfound respect for construction workers.
I have always worked in offices most my life and have never worked in any type of blue collar job.
A relative of mine is a landlord and buys old apartment buildings which he renovates and then rents out to tenants.

He recently bought a new building and asked me to do some construction work for him, I obliged since I'm semi-retired and dont mind doing a bit of work just to keep me busy and earn some extra cash.

So today was day one and I dont think I've ever worked so hard in my life
Carrying large cement blocks, ripping out drywall, removing heavy tiles, etc...etc
It is incredibly hard work and to think that some people do this for their entire lives is, in my eyes, worthy of some respect.

Now my whole body aches like hell, and to think I've committed for 2 more weeks

$20 an hour is ok to start as a cash deal.

And yes, you are right, until you do it, you don't know how hard it is. You see a guy carrying a bag of cement powder and you think nothing of it. Well, you try it and see how easy it is. Or try being on the end of a jack hammer all day. Your ears splitting, a head ache from the pounding, your joints vibrating, unable to close your hands at the end of the day, breathing the dust all day. And then work late, but start the next day right at 7:00 a.m. and do it all over again.

I used to work construction, and still do a lot of work on the side. It's very hard work, AND, if you want to do a good job, you have to think about what you are doing as well. Some of the most intelligent people I have ever met in my life are in the trades. Building a building or a bridge or some other form of construction is not something that is easily done.

Most people think that road building is just a matter of cutting down the trees and paving over the ground. Nice try.

Stretch Well In The Morning

I sometimes help out my contractor buddies for "favours in the favour bank" and I get the shitty labour work.

My advice, give your body a good stretch. Focus on yours legs, back, abs and shoulders.

Stretch well for a good 10 minutes but don't let them see you. :p

Maybe do it at home before you leave. Pop two Advil with your coffee and have Robaxacet for when you get home, just in case.

Stay hydrated with beaucoup water.

I've done many kinds of work, both legal and not so.
I've had to paint houses, tear down homes and other physical stuff.
Let me tell you how happy I am that I sit in my own office and am an employer. Physical work sucks. great for the pecs, nothing else. LOL

I keep my hand in some construction, demolition work is the most fun for me - it's almost therapeutic.
The tools we have today make me amazed how the oldtimers did jobs, I can't imagine doing without a nail gun, compressor, cordless drills etc.

my 2 cents

Well I started my career in construction.
From working at the bottom of the list and working to the top and eventually owning my own company.
So I have gone from the labor intensive to the paper intensive........and i tell you each has it's own hardships.

Ya...manual labor is great and can be entertaining and exhausting......but the exact same can be said for white colar work.

Given the same salary, I'd take office work over blue collar work anyday, especially after today.

Anyone know a good Chiropractor???

It sounds to me like you need a massage
So lets see, I make all this money doing hard labour just so I can spend that money on a massage to negate all the effects of that labour.

Salary for office people is often fixed salary. but in the construction field if you work it right the black market of cash transactions is amazing at boosting the salary.

Not to mention that a reasonably preparred construction worker can set up business like a consultant and write off alot...and I mean alot of his exspenses...........then add on top of that the cash........

I know more contractors and consruction workers who own more toys and live a better life than most office workers of the same base salary.

Yep!Unfortunately,that's the way it work's :D

On a more serious note,if you are planning on seeing a Chiropractor, may I suggest you see a RMT first.Tight muscles are a definate impediment to a successful adjustment, and most Chiros don't do soft tissue work.
Nikki2, Check your PM box, please

Yeah but you have to claim some of your income to the taxman

She's right. Soft tissue and Tui-na better for sore muscles and slight disc-shift from fatigue/over-worked. Chiro more suited for mis-alignment.
