Is this the worst breakfast chain around.

They have increased their profit margin by cutting corners. They don't how to cook eggs, I ordered sunny side up and the whites were under-cooked. The waitress gave me attitude when I sent it back. Their bacon portions are slivers and they dilute their maple syrup with corn syrup and water.

The worst part the total bill was $6:00 higher than my local dinner. If anyone wants to go to Cora's again, i'll just tell them "let's go eat sushi".

I'll agree. It's been years since I've been to a Cora's. First time was okay until I got the bill which was expensive compared to a local diner. The second and last time was terrible. Coffee was old and awful (waitress said they changed brands because it was cheaper) and the eggs & bacon were way overcooked. Mentioned it to the waitress who told the cook who gave a dirty look and shrugged his shoulders. Only good thing about the last visit was the waitress was topnotch with her service and very attractive.

I was there once years ago. That was enough for me.

For a chain, Sunset Grill is the best that I've been to. For an indy (there's 2 locations), there's a Hazel's diner very close to me.

I am a regular at Cora's . As all hospitality chains are they are having a hard time hiring quality staff and keeping them. Furthermore often the "new Hires " phone in sick or whatever just because they do not feel like working that day. Does anyone really want to work in food and beveridge and hospitality these days - probably not.!! As is always the case the food and service will vary somewhat based on the location and the staff that day.

I often show up for the early bird specials which are between 7 and 8 am , seven days a week. The early bird specials are the best deal in town but you have to be early for them. They will run you $10- $12+ tax in and include coffee. If you do not get the early bird specials you will probably pay about $20 before tip which I agree is a touch expensive but the fruit that is included makes the extra cost worth it .

It's not difficult to cook sunny side up eggs. You cook the white through until a crust forms under the yolk. That way you can dip the bread in and it will hold it's shape, the best part is the cooked yolk above the crust. If the white is under-cooked it turns into a gloppy mess with the texture of snot. That's my worst complaint about Cora's.

I'll stick to my local dinner, never have they gotten the eggs wrong. The bacon is thick cut. If you order the pancakes you get a generous portion of blue berries and real maple syrup. Galaxie is supposedly a chain but I haven't seen another location anywhere in Toronto.

Cora’s use to be good, haven’t been in awhile thou.

If we’re talking about chain restaurant disappointments, how about Swiss Chalet…it use to be one of my favourite places but the last few times I’ve been, at different locations, it has been average.

sunset grill is the closest to any family ran breakfast restaurants...I'd still stick to my local family breakfast though...

The one that was at Carlton and Yonge was me and my SP’s go to place for brunch before we headed to Oasis Aqualounge for a long play date. It was kinda pricey , but convenient as Oasis was just a minute away by foot.

Yes - you need a microscope to see the chicken these days at Swiss Chalet

Most chain food places are a complete rip off nowadays. The value you get is low. Covid provided them all a license to gouge and raise prices. I know a food terminal supplier who said the markup has quadrupled since covid. It's pure greed.

I've never eaten at a Cora's before and have no interest in doing so. Sunset Grill I've eaten at a few times and not impressed. The chain I'm liking the most right now is Stacked.

I'll put in a good word for a local independent. Gingerman restaurant is not cheap, but it is very good. Amazing western sandwich. It's in the Victoria Park Ave. and St Clair Ave. E. area.

Rise and Dine on St. Clair at O’Connor is my go-to breakfast spot. It helps that I’m a 5 minute walk away.

Gingerman is hit and miss, in my experience. Still not a bad place to stop but it was much better about 10 years ago. Again, IMO.
I believe there was a recent change in ownership.

Swiss Chalet hasn't be good since they changed the fries and wasn't that like 20 years ago.
