Actually, I find the CBC is pretty well balanced, far more so than the FP or Global.

As for Harper, he does not like any media, except if they are publishing his entire speech without any editorial comment.

We are lucky actually to have the CBC.

Hmm... Conservatives complain about unfair treatment, CBC investigates, agrees with them and admits reporter acted inappropriately.

What a bunch of assholes!

CBC broke the lottery scandal and recently did an expose of underhanded condo sales tactics. I think they are the only broadcaster currently out there looking out for the little guy. I suppose that makes them communists?

CBC is about the best we have in TV or Newspaper media in this region. Probably why more and more people are turning to the net to find the news.

Yes, I agree.

He'd much rather give a defense contract we don't need to someone, have that guy put $300,000 in a paper bag, hand it to a consultant, and take it for himself.

Oh wait a minute, that was the last Tory bastard we had in power, and what an unbelievable waste of taxpayer money paying him was ... guess we'll have a few years and governments to see who Harper's cabinet sold us to, suspect the now fired defence minister/lobbyist will be found corrupt too.
Christ you are so biased you are going back 15 plus years . You forget adscam, FBDB. Jane Stewart. All that was much more recent and makes your $300,000 look like petty cash.

Get some balance.

As far as the CBC is concerned does anyone actually watch it except for NHL, CFL, olympics and news on Rapidair AC flights ?

The only reason I go back 15 years is that's how long we had to go to find a Tory government.

Adscam was minor level bureaucrats doing in Quebec what we've always done in Quebec since the time of John A. MacDonald ... buy the French vote, or try. It's a game as old as Canada itself. Does it make it right? No, but hardly a big item.

The idea that the PRIME MINISTER, not some petty bureaucrat, is taking bribes in office at all is far, far worse. And this bribe was only one in a long series of stupid, corrupt moves made by Mulroney, who swapped terrible legislation in terms of its impact on the country for board seats with companies who benefitted from those stupid decisions.

Jane Stewart was incompetent, but hardly any more so that Gordon O'Connor, Jason Kenney, Rona Ambrose, Stockwell Day or ten other intellectually deprived excuses for ministers.

And this is the best the right has to offer?

Look, in comparison to Chretien's cabinet, where you had 5 or 6 guys better suited to run the country than anyone currently in Parliament on any side, today's Liberals are not the equal of their previous administration.

But I wouldn't let any of Harper's crowd run even a school board (yes, there could be worse than the fools at the TDSB), and Harper himself knows it ... which is why he has to control everything and leave ministers as mouthpieces.
Well just remember Canadians elected every one of the people Harper has as ministers. Okay there is that one guy from the Senate. Oh yes and that guy who was elected as a liberal. Somewhere in this great country someone elected these guys. Just remember every single one of these Conservatives would make a better President than George Bush.

Media that relies on advertising is no longer neutral or unbiased. If you don't believe me, look at the shameful treatment of Bill Mahar when he spoke his mind.

Is Fox news balanced and fair?

I've worked with a lot of media in Canada over the years on certain issues, and I have to say, I know where I can get my spin put on in the best light. And it is not the CBC.

One also has to understand the history of the CBC, its mandate, and the fact that it broadcasts into markets that the private sector could not be bothered with.

While I have no doubt that Tony Clement or Peter Van Loan would make a better POTUS than Bush, I'm not convinced that Stockwell Day would be any better. In fact, I think you would have a difficult time convincing me he would be as good as.

How can any thing be fair and objective when it is done by people. No person and I include myself is unbiased. It is up to the reader or watcher to know this. This is where grade 8 English classes come in, where we were taught to understand the point of view or perspective of the narration. Realize that what we read is not the entire story. Unfortunately too many people forget this lesson. They have a favourite paper or TV station watch it and are suddenly experts. Too many people I know get their views from the Sun or Star or CTV or CBC.

The web gives us an amazing resource to seek out other views from so many other sources. Often we can actually talk to people involved in it, or read their blog. When someone has such a different view of mine I really want to try to understand it.

What I don't like is the way so much if the media is owned by so few. A lot of rich people who want more tax breaks and support the person willing to give them this money and power. Then we have those stories that don't get run because the papers or TV have heavy advertising money from this company. I recall a story about a pizza company that ended legally screwing their franchise owners, or there is the one of Bloom County cartoon and Mary Kay in the Sun and a few other papers.

One of my favourites when I had a lot of time to read was Scientific American. The would usually print at least two different if not opposing views on subjects along with the credentials of the person writing the piece. It was easy to know before you started reading the bias of the writer.

I often get mad at the bias of the media as they tend to put it forth as the absolute truth. Really it is up to us to understand the truth and pick out the facts from the views, then try to find opposing views with different facts and perspective.

I am very glad for the CBC and TVO, but am happier getting news from the net.
