I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica in December. It was eco-tourism that made me choose it, but then I discovered prostitution is legal. Bonus!!

I'm trying to decide where to go. I thought I'd fly into San Jose and stay a night or two, then head to a beach town. From what I have read, Jaco is good for hobbying, but not anything else. Reviews say the beach is not as nice as other areas, and there isn't as much to do. The eco-tourism stuff is important (zip lining, canyoning, volcanoes, etc), but meeting women is too. Can anyone suggest a beach town that isn't hours from San Jose? I could also fly into Liberia, but then I'd miss out on the Del Rey. Such a conundrum!

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I had a "ball" in Manuel Antonia, a beach town, but...it's hours from San Jose
Is there a beach town that isn't hours from San Jose?????? I think not.

Check your geography, Kyle, and you see that the only body of water close to San Jose is a hotel pool. Since that is in CR, you should do very well at a pool too! Manuel Antonia is in a beautiful area of the country, highly recommended by my bro the eco-dude.

Best for what? Hobbying? Sight-seeing? Economy? Good food?

Ask the same question about any city and it needs qualifying too.

My choice, for the reasons I went (a mix of normal and bad-boy), was La Amistad, the choice of many tourists of either persuasion. Fabulous food, too, and close enough to the action, but apart.

As always, do your research on www.costaricaticas.com a site which operates like terb.

Do consider La Amistad if you wish to escape the excitement of the hobby for a few hours. Dunn's is fine for that too, I hear, but La Amistad is so close to Sportsmens and has great food.

DO NOT STAY AT La AMISTAD!! I was there for week in October last year. The place is literally 25 feet from train tracks, a commuter train that runs from 6am and runs every fifteen minutes until the end of time goes past your room.... Fuckin assume !

Gotta choose your room, that's true, or else get up at 6 as I did and went for walks to see the sights b4 it gets hot and the workers arrive at Sportsmen's Lodge.

First morning I was there the train hit a bus shortly after 6 am, that was exciting!

You gotta understand that things happen in CR. It was the first week of the commuter train running on old tracks previously used once a week by a freighter and the natives weren't used to having trains operating. And of course it was an unprotected crossing then, now it has some sort of normal safeguards. Ya. so at 6:15 I was in the shower when there was this horrendous noise and the bldg shook. Since the water was still running, and since my first all-nighter gal didn't shriek and run out of the shower, I kept on with my shower etc.

Not really. You can get to Jaco from San Jose in less than an hour with the new road. Many people break up their trips into a few days in San Jose and then to the beach.

Ok, I think I can help in this topic since I live in there for about 25years and still go back there every year.

Dont go to jaco, girls there looks terrible compared to the escorts you can find in Toronto, and they will charge for more money since they will know you are a tourist, the beach sucks too so why even go there? The beach ppl are mentioning is Manuel Antonia, thats not the name the name is Manuel Antonio, its nice but if you go out farther into the province of Guanacaste you can find even better places like Conchal or hey if you have money go to one of those All Inclusive beach hotels, the food is amazing too, I recomend Hotel Riu, they provide buses from SJ to there and back if Im not mistaken and right now not sure thou but maybe you can find good promos for discounts on hotels since its not high season yet.

Now if you are going to SJ for some escort or prostitution action, be careful with the street walkers, and if you go to the hotel "El Rey" thats the place that anyone knows that you can get good lucking latinas that will get all the juice out of you for $200 for the night not even 1h like here, but you can pay 200-300 and make them stay for the night, as usual there are different prices and different girls, some days there wont be any girl others days it will be packed, ask the bar tender he can help you out Im sure.

You can always bargain with the girl about the price and heck if you are flying by yourself you can even tell her to go with you for a weekend for one of this all inclusive hotels and they will love too, I remember 2 girls offered the service to me and they even told me that it was "free" I just had to pay for the trip and hotel, which for 2-3 days of pure wild sex for $100 the night was a real bargain.

Now if you go to a stripclub they are usually better than the ones on TO, since you can have SEX in there for like 50bucks, oh yeah you just go to one of those stripclubs ask the bartender for the prize on the "Privados" which means "private" thats like 2songs with a girl in a dark room, some places will charge you only for the time in the room whiich is like $15 = 10mins, and then the girl will charge you extra for the sex which sometimes can be from $50 to $100, the room is not made to have sex so there is no bed, its only a couch but hey... good enough for a BJ.

I went to CR in May and I avoid all the stripclubs for foreigners since they know you have money and they will charge you TONS of money, I rather go for a place like "Pantera Rosa" which means "Pink Panther", take a cab to go there or drive, plz dont go by foot nor public transportation, there they charge you 20mins for one girl in the room for only $50 for one shot on goal, and believe me there are girls there that can make the girls of here that charges $300 look like cheap hookers, ohh and if you pay for the 1hour room for $100 the girl goes WILD!!!

But since they will know you are a foreigner just be careful bc they for sure are going to try to charge you more, damn I miss Costa Rica already :'(

some quick comments

Jaco is great. Lots of action, a real party place. I am not sure why the beach gets so slammed...it is a nice beach! fine sand, good waves....find Claritas and sit and have a meal and watch the sun set...yes not as nice as Man Ant or some of the others---but those beaches are not quite same if you are alone and want the company of ladies

La Amistad great place...just ask for an interior room if you are worried about the train noise. Nice guys working desk...and just 2 blocks to Sportsman...

i recently visited CR and boy o boy - what a great place to monger. Had way too much fun, whether mongering or enjoying eco tourism. Top notch in every respect. awesome variety at a fraction of cost here. Stayed at La Amistad and really liked it. stay in back rooms to avoid train noise issue.
Cant wait to go back

Have a great trip, BZ. Smile at the staff of La Amistad for me. Is that really cute waitress still there?
When I stayed there I had a room beside the kitchen, the coffee smell was fabulous by 6 am. Up and at 'em!

Thanks dude. Actually, I'm not staying at LA this time, they had no availability, even though Rudy offered me a deal on a suite, I'm not big on the suite because there's too much light for me in the morning. It's a fabulous room, though. So, for the first time in about 25 trips, I'm staying somewhere else, Hotel Little Havana. Great deals on the girls for guests there, will post my thoughts when I get back if you're interested.
