It depends what you're going there for. Are you planning to stay in San Jose for the purpose of pooning? There's quite a few options. I personally wouldn't stay at the del rey. It's the epicentre of working girls. Convenient yes, but the lobby is just full of working girls 24/7.
I stayed at The Best Western......there are two of them, one in the city centre and one on the outshirts where I stayed.
It's a big hotel conplex, big pool, loved the fact that the counter staff would take the I.D. off my visiting friends :thumb:

hotel bula bula...north pacific coast walking distance along the beach from Tamarindo....private, low key rather than a mega resort..no americans around makes it even that much more pleasant..even though the two guys who own it are Yanks

In theory, but in reality it's just too much. There's no getting away from it. I like pooning too, but if I'm somewhere for a week there's other shit I can do and I need some relax time at the bar too. I just don't think it would be fun to actually stay there. None of the costa rica regulars stay there that I spoke to/read on the forums. That tells you something..
There's more than a few very nice places a short walk away.
As for the OP, sorry I can't advise on more vacation oriented places..
It's not a good idea to stay at the Del Rey because you're immediately targeted as an easy mark by the chicas there. They know that all they have to do is get you up to your room, get you off & they'll be back downstairs to find the next sucker. The Del Rey (at least the hotel part) is for newbies who don't really know any better. Plus, they charge you $10 to take a girl to your room.
Sorry to hijack, but I can't help with the resort info either....I go to CR for only 1 reason & it's not an all-inclusive. Trip #44 for me coming up next week.
That happens everywhere. Prostitution is legal there, and I believe that is one of the requirements.
The call back is not a requirement, just something that some hotels do. Taking the cedula isn't a requirement either, just something to protect you in case there's an issue. Plus, since CR elected a female president a few years ago, there has been lots of talk of making it illegal. It's unlikely IMO because it's highly ingrained in the culture, but they want to distance themselves from being a "sex tourist" destination.

A friend of mine stayed in Del Rey once and had a great time. Apparently the ziplining there is phenomenal, if you;re into that.
The going rate at the Del Rey is $100 for one shot on goal. Depending on the hotel you are staying in there may be a fee to take them to your room (it's $10 at the del rey).
Much cheaper can be had at massage parlours and strip clubs if you're willing to put a little more effort into it.
Doesn't sound like a gift from Santa. Counting tickets and all, does not seem to be a pooning destination per se.
It's almost entirely Americans going there, so for them it's like paradise. For those of us in the know (Terbies) we know how good it is here, but for the average joe that doesn't normally hobby it could also be seen as paradise.
You can easily get laid for $40-50 with nice girls at one of the many parlours, but if requires a tiny bit of research to know where to go. Which is why I said earlier that staying at the Del Rey is not really a good idea.
