Well, it was inevitable, but . . .
This certainly will reduce the number of entertaining threads about CL bullshit. Some folks will be starved for conversation.
While most of us won't miss the lies, the fakes, the bait & switch, it's nonetheless an unfortunate loss, particularly for the good ladies who have been able to advertise their services there at no cost. And those ladies for whom CL has been a major source of generating clients and income, will find this a cruel Christmas present indeed.
Apart from the loss of entertaining reading for terbites and the more serious financial impact for SPs relying on CL, what I find most disturbing is the implications for freedom of information and the rights of individuals to choose a lifestyle at variance with the conservative values of self-righteous right wingers.
Craiglist clearly pulled the plug because it was easier than fighting for the principal of free speech, a battle that might cost major dollars to preserve an advertising section which which didn't make CL any money, anyhow.
No doubt there will be no alternate sites available to serve that advertising need, but they will take time to take hold.
Meanwhile, I'm not going to feel sorry for the guys suffering withdrawal symptoms.
I'll save my sympathy for the ladies who have been tossed out the door to freeze their asses in the snowbanks.

Absolutely correct. And just as the cream always rises, the smart SPs who relied on CL will find other ways to generate "sales leads." Nonetheless, they're bound to feel the cruel winds of winter biting their asses tonight and tomorrow and throughout this season of good cheer and merriment.dont forget there are places where for a relatively small fee you can pay to advertise....

I won't miss Craigslist, personally, but I will miss its presence, the ability to check it out. The cowardly self-censorship annoys me. And on that point I repeat: Humbug!
