Hard to believe that the US media coverage of 1 incident manage to kill this vital service. I guess the millions of guns sites and the availability of deadly weapons had nothing to do with it.

Anyways back to the original thread. I liked CL mainly because it was so easy to navigate and it was universal. I also liked the fact that if you were on it didn't necessarily mean you were looking for you know what. I also liked it because I generally seek out SPs who may not be classified as being on the high end of the scale and it provided a decent platform for those to promote themselves at little or no investment. As far as I am concern for those (critics) who were concerned with all the B&S ADs, that was the purpose of this forum and I must say, that over the past few years I am extremely grateful and thankful to both.

In the end, I will miss all the CLs Ads and I obviously disappointed that they eventually caved in to the US media. However, I Look forward to Duff or whatever rises from the ashes.

I'm not thrilled about loosing CL. Another fight lost in the erotic business. But I'll just have to wait for the next site. Maybe this will just insure quality over quantity.

From what I heard the Canadian shutdown had more to do with a 14 yr old from Vancouver who was using Craiglist to solict business. In fact business was so good so recuited friends to work for her.

Now bottomline is girls and guys under 18 ys old do not belong in this hobby. I would hope SPs do the same at turning away any client which is underage. To me this is more reason to license the SPs, so there are controls in place.

there will always be underage drinking, underage smoking, underage driving, and yes underage sps and mps.... this move was nothing more than a political move by the goverment, reacting to the morally righteous public.... if it is illegal than there will always be people making money off it, and the underage will try to do it... human nature, sad but true...

Canadian politicians may croon victory, but the simple truth is Craigslist pulled the plug on the Erotic Services section worldwide.

The simple reason is that the ER section caused headaches and hassles like no other section. Not only a lightning rod for attacks from prudes on the religulous right, but also a constant pain in the ass from bickering posters, users and flaggers.

Life will be much simpler now for Craigslist.

And what did Craigslist lose, apart from controversy?

Nothing.

On the other hand, had it required credit a card payment for every ad posted in the ER section, even a mere $5 or $10, the phenomenal flow of revenue would have prompted Craigslist to finance a (undoubtedly winning) legal battle all the way to the supreme court in defence of the right to freedom of expression.

But with no revenue source to justify the existence of the controversial ER section, once American politicians discovered it and got on the soapbox, its demise was inevitable.

In the words of Kurt Weill, falling from the lips of the Emcee in Cabaret:

"Money makes the world go round!"

It is all just political BS. Prostitution is not illegal in Canada and most laws that exist around prostitution are likely to be overturned shortly. The police should concentrate on real crime. And how about all those ads on CL for stolen goods and other rip-off services?
