Newfoundland and Labrador Lt.-Gov. John Crosbie says he's sorry if a joke he made about Pakistan and suicide bombers offended anyone.

Crosbie joked during a recent ceremony for cabinet ministers that a U.S. man feeling suicidal about the economy called a hotline for help.

He said the man was transferred to a call centre in Pakistan where he was asked if he could drive a truck.

I don't really approve as racial and / or suicide bomber humour is not in terribly good taste, but most people seem to be taking it in relative stride, and it's not like there's a huge Pakistani constituency where he's from... It's more of an issue if he has national ambitions (which is unlikely given his age). I think fewer people would be chronically offended by the joke than would be worried about the guy that thought it was a good idea to make it. (It shows poor judgement.)

edit: Ohh, I didn't realize who made the joke. It barely registers as a 7 for him. Meh, give the geriatric codger a pass.

It was funny. Bad form for a Lieutenant Govenor of a province, but funny all the same. Too much PC here for sure, but it was properly bad form for a LG. If I were in the crowd, would have laughed my ass off too!
