Yeah, that's the same screen shots I saw.
Just thought it was a neat idea being able to put an OS on a key chain jump drive and plug it into any PC to run it.

Looks like Amiga http://damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-3.1.jpg LOL ...

I'd stick with the more popular Distros.

But DSL is a VERY popular distro....
It's kwite nice.
Rosie should start using it again.
Don't care too much for Puppy Linux though.
The damn thing wouldn't work, not matter what Rosie did!!!

Well you can run Ubuntu off a CD so magine it can be done with a usb drive but can't say for certain.
I use Ubuntu also and believe it requires at least 2 gigs which is no problem because usb drives now hold up to 8 gigs.

Another reason I was interested in this was a couple techies who recommended DSL say since it runs off a flash drive this OS is very fast.
They all said it is excellent for surfing the internet with no virus worries because it is linux.

Dsl

OK, burned an ISO image to CD and ran it to see what it's like.
I like it, it's simple, easy to pickup and very fast even though it is running off a CD. Comes with Firefox and 2 other browsers. Then sent it over to a usb flash drive but can't get it to boot off the usb drive yet. Tried following their directions but no joy yet.
Anyone have any advice/tips.....thanks.

Not sure about the MB.
Have made no changes to the BIOS and right now it boots up XP or Ubuntu from the C drive.

DSL is kind of crappy (hardware support, etc.) You can get Ubuntu to run off a USB stick.. it's actually very cool because of how fast it runs.

what I mean is that you may have to change the boot sequence in the bios to boot up from the usb.
Well I am not sure on this but it would seem weird to boot from the usb right away. ALmost like a control freak taking over you computer.

Believe the big appeal of DSL is that it is such a small OS (<50 megs) very fast and ideal for surfing the web.

DSL runs very fast off a CD also.
This sounds interesting. I use and like Ubuntu.
How did you do it?
How big of a usb jump drive did you use?

I thought the same thing.
Still haven't figured out how to boot up off the usb.

Although I accomplished it a slightly different way, the methods listed on this site seem to work OK. I use a 2GB usb drive, but I think a 1GB would be enough.
