Wow!

Think I hit a nerve with this one.
Thanks to the girls who sugar coat the industry and try to put me at ease.
Thanks even more to the guys who bring me back down and point out what it's really like.

I'm sorry girls, and I'm sure you're all educated, lovelly, clean, intelligent people, but it's hard to argue with statistics and stereotypes.
There is such a high instance of strippers getting involved in drugs, getting addicted to the money, never making anything of their lives, I just can't stomach the idea of that happening to her.

The industry has just become so much more about sex than entertainment, and to whoever menntioned the thought of guys groper her in the VIP, that just about made me vomit.

Why tempt fate? The more that I think about it the more I feel that I have to talk her out of it.

I think the girls are quick to point out the positive aspects of the industry, but they are blinded by the money. You can't see the forest for the trees. Its an industry that I could never want her involved in.

Personally, I don't find it has changed my views on men at all, and if it HAS, it would be for the better honestly. I find I meet alot of cool guys in the clubs. Generally, the only ones who continuously annoy me time and time again, are the young guys in l;arge groups who have mistaken their night out for a rap video.
A girl has to realize that some men go to these places to act a certain way that is socially unacceptible anywhere else, and that they are probrably ok guys outside of there.

Sorry to quote Dr.Phil, but you teach ppl how to treat you....not allowing yourself to get jaded by the assholes. You will have good experiences with most people if meeting you WAS a good experience for them.

Maybe I seem to sugarcoat it, but I DO like my job, and I DO have a dayjob as well. Dancing is a fun exhibitionist thing for me, and I am in control, not the "gross old creepy guy". If you don't want some dude to touch you, he doesn't.
I can see I am hugely outnumbered here( as usual) so i bow out.
I AM concerned however about the statement "it's hard to argue with steotypes" Hmmm.

End of story: you asked about your sis dancing, you seem to have made up your opinion. Problem solved.
Whenever an issue like this comes up, it's always a hot topic.

I agree with you that it's not the best business but it's not the worst.

I mean not all men are decent nor are all women but don't castigate men for using a service you provided.
its not that i want to feel this way, i just do. i'm not trying to judge anyone here, its just that when i look for someone i want to marry and spend my life with, it is very discouraging when i see tons of great guys, either married or in a relationship proposition me or see MPA/ SP's. i worry that will happen with my husband, and yes that scares me. i realize that alot of these men are good fathers/husbands who love their wives and just need to fufill something their lacking at home, but I don't want the man i'm with to do that. i'm not trying to say all men do this, but being surrounded by it, it seems highly likely, and that is why it is hard for me to trust men. if my bf wanted to go to a strip club and chill with friends, i'm fine with that but i can't help thinkin, will he go in the vip with someone...etc., etc. being in this biz, just kind of discourages me....and has made me a bit cynical. i used to be such a romantic, but now i guess i'm more of a realist (and i kind of wish i could go back to the time i didn't know all the bad).

....the term is "pawing"

anyway, glad you decided to talk your sister out of dancing without clothes on

since your sister is hot

maybe you should compromise and suggest to your sister that she should work at a 'rub and tug'.....I mean no 'rub and tug' girls do drugs, they just sip mint julips and strawberry tea

plus they are helping people(mostly man) release their stress and calming their nerves so they go back to society centred and refreshed

Sounds like the job has deffinately changed your opinion of men Kat.
Not that any man will ever be good enough for her, in my mind anyway.

I do appologize about the stereotype line Kennedy, but in this case i think it's well deserved.

Most strippers are messed up, addicts, drunks, whatever!
Even most of the people on this board, who talk up the industry and compliment the dancers, and seemingly think highly of them, seem disgusted by the idea of their sister, daughter, etc doing it.

Really says something to me.

...we all do

...back to the age of innocence, a sense of wonderment about the world.....and not to be afraid of it....not to see the darkness, the pain...the agony...the horrific truth that as wonderful as the human spirit can be....it can equally be selfish in it's consumption of beauty

I'm not saying they're all like that, I'm just saying that the majority are. Sounds like you might be a little sensitive to this subject Kennedy.

I know that there are acceptions to the rule, but not enough of them to want a family member to try it.

And the basic fact is that girls get addicted to the money, she's got a bright future ahead of her, and I don't want her getting hooked on the easy cash. I also don't want her sitting on guy's laps and getting "pawed".

Surely you can understand?
