On the road with Willy
Does it matter?
I'm done with Bond.
Roger Moore made him campy.
The followers made him forgettable.
Craig's Bond should be rebranded the Super Terminator.
Connery's Bond fought against the odds and the bad guys always missed but on the edge of the envelope You could imagine him and yourself doing some of that stuff.
Craig's Bond makes the Terminator look like a pussy.
Pull the battery pack on the entire series.

Hmmm. That's one way of looking at it.

I felt that Craig was a great Bond after the pretty boys before him (although I thought Timothy Dalton was good). He invoked his license to kill and showed that he could be brutal. Maybe it was overdone like mama says.

I heard he turned down 65 million for 2 movies, but what is a million here and there? How much better can he eat? How many more cars can he drive? I will not be surprise if it is all publicity hype.

I don't believe it to be hype. Craig has done all he can with 007, he's walking away at the right time.

Now 007 needs a fresh start, if Idris Elba assumes the role it would be awesome. However on the poll given prior to the screening of Spectre, 72% of the respondents wanted Tom Hardy. There is delicious irony in that, Layer Cake is the film that got Daniel Craig, James Bond.

Bond movies change over time, but they are terrible now. I've never seen all the movies (so many of them), but what I remember

- Connery: old low budget movies (sign of the times), and old school acting that was robotic and resembles theatre actors (that weird stage play kind of acting), but he was believable and acted like a spy
- Moore: Still cheesy budgets. Comedy bits every 5 minutes. But still acted like a spy with stealthy gear
- The mish mash after Moore: Suddenly, Bond turns into Rambo. Machine guns. Driving a tank. So much for spy duties. The guy is out in the open like a foot solider
- Craig: More nitty gritty as movies have turned darker and less colourful. Acts more like a spy should, but the movies lack excitement. And he's hulked up like an MMA fighter. I guess I'm an outsider.... I thought Skyfall is among the most boring Bond movies ever. And the villain and final battle at the house was laughably absurd

If they can bring back the Connery movies and modernize them, I think they would be great.

There's a lot of speculation on forums that in Spectre Bond died. There's a scene where the bad guy has him strapped in a chair, drilling into his brain. He says he's making a slight adjustment to his memory.

Shortly after that Bond escapes, but the whole tone of the movie is different. Whereas previously in the film Bond used cover and concealment, and "acted like a spy", after that point he's Rambo: standing out in the open while being fired at by hundreds of guys with machine guns and shooting them with a pistol. There's even a scene where he blows up an entire massive facility with a single pistol shot and surreal scenes with photos of all the people in his life. He does incredible and impossible things. It's dream like.

The theory is the whole ending from that point on is a hallucination. Bond is actually still that chair dying with a drill in his brain.

Claim is this will be revealed in the next Bond movie which will feature a new 007.

IMHO, Timothy Dalton was a great 007. He left after two installments over creative differences. He wanted to develop 007 as a hitman but the producers wanted a more debonair Bond, they jumped the shark with Pierce Brosnan. Daniel Craig was on the role when he was offered the role. His three previous films were Road to Perdition, Layer Cake and Munich.

I loved the last Bond.

I think Craig is second only to Sean Connery. (And that could just be nostalgia talking.)

As far as Craig walking away, well, it's a free world and if he wants to, so be it. Me, if I were him, I would take the Michael Caine approach to making movies - it's all about the money baby. Caine has made some great movies and he's made some absolute pieces of shit. Once when asked about his doing Jaws 4, he responded,

Didn't he say he was done after Skyfall too?

He even admitted himself, that he is free to change his mind at any time.

Personally, I'm a fan of Casino Royale, Skyfall, and Spectre, though the latter two have moments of weakness.
