Letter from Rogers:
Upgrade to our most advanced cable modem at no additional charge
Your new medem will get you ready to take advantage of future benefits such as:
* Network upgrades - consistent speeds, stability and reliability
* Flexibility - Access to all service tiers (Ultra-Lite, Lite, Express or Extreme)
* Exciting services - New, exclusive Internet features and services planned for the future

Has anyone picked up the new modem yet?
I'm going to wait for a while because my old modem is working fine.
I am interested to hear of experiences with the new modem.
Thanks.

Wait & See

I got a letter and a couple of emails requesting I upgrade too, that was in March. My "old" modem works fine I get over 600kbps download speeds using regualr high-speed service, I'm afraid if I upgrade my speeds will get slower not faster! I'll wait and see too.

Before paranoia takes hold, feel free to read the DOCSIS specs (google for them) or other industry commentary. Then you can make your own educated decision. But my own opinion is that this is not a regressive step for consumers, but should be a positive opportunity.

This letter was sent to existing Rogers Internet customers who still have a Legacy Terayon modem. Rogers will be decomissioning that entire platform by the end of the year. Your speeds should better than before since the majority of existing Internet customers already have or have switched over the DOCSIS platform. I would hold off on swapping your Legacy Terayon modem until they shut you down.
