Came across this while flipping during the Jays game, and it is a damn cool show. While I agree with the Samarai victory, I felt the Viking shield was a much more effective piece of gear than the clumsy Japanese war club. Conversely, I'd rate the Samarai spear/polearm much higher with its range and speed over the long sword. And the long sword should've been up against the katana to begin with as others have already stated.

On the surface you'd think it would be a Spartan cakewalk, but I'm sure they'll make it close and interesting this Tuesday.

Sparta was well known for its fighters and more importantly its introduction of discipline.

The Spartan fighter was able to win because of the introduction of the Phalanx, not because the individual fighter was so much superior.

Fights between armies were often just mass riots, with whomever turning to run away first being the loser.

The Spartan's introduced a wall of shields that made it very difficult for a mob to penetrate. The Roman army later adopted this tactic to great effect vs the rest of Europe.

The Spartans (if I remember my ancient history correctly) were a society that did not look at women as a pleasure, but only as breeding vessels. "True love" could only be between two men. The Spartan command took advantage of the fact that men were fighting with and for their lovers.

Individual Spartan vs Ninja? Ninja would win. Group of Ninja vs Phalanx of Spartans? Spartans would crush them.
Thank you Professor for the history lesson but we are talking about a ridiculous TV show that is somewhat entertaining NOT a university seminar symposium.

Dude, time to grow up and move out of mom's basement and go back to class for some spelling homework

Agreed. Awesome show.

Love the "out of 1000 fights" simulation.

I agree with the Apache over the Gladiator 725 to 275.

BUT.............

I have to disagree with the Samurai over the Viking. Thought the Viking should have been victorious. And it was close - like 525 to 475.

Spartan vs. Ninja?

Spartan with the win for sure.

"Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!!!"

Spartan v. Ninja

Just saw the above matching. THe Spartan won 65 percent of the time. The shield was the deciding factor. It helped deflect most of the Ninja offensive weapons.

Next week pirate vs. knight.
Kind of a lame one but they can't all be great I guess.
Pirate gets to use a flintlock against the sword?

BTW, results so far and next 5 episodes are:

Gladiator vs. Apache
Viking vs. Samurai
Spartan vs. Ninja
Pirate vs. Knight
NY Mafia vs. Tokyo Yakuza
Green Beret vs. Spetznaz
Maori vs. Shaolin
Scottish Highlander vs. Zulu

Mafia vs. Yakuza should be hilarious...Maori vs. Shaolin sounds very intersting

Yeah, it makes sense that in a conventional fight that the Spartan would win. But as the ninja advocate was saying on the show, if the ninja had the choice of running away from the fight and coming back to get at the Spartan while he was sleeping it would be another story. A big ninja weapon, stealth, wasn't factored in, apparently.

You really don't want to know

Well then, you'd have to factor in the big Spartan weapon....numbers, the fact that almost always you'd be facing a minimum of 12 Spartans.
